I assume that plao10997 IS enjoying their teenage years. Believe it or not, some kids would rather challenge themselves academically than with video games and television.
I do have concerns about a 14 year old in any college dorm environment. However a good friend of DS graduated early to attend Shimer College @ 16 and is doing extremely well both socially and academically.

It doesn’t really matter how academically talented you are, the fact is that at 13 or 14, you still have a developing mind when making judgments and decisions. I would think the liability for any campus having a minor living without direct adult supervision would be huge. What if you were injured, and needed medical care? A doctor would need a parent to be on hand at some point pretty quickly to treat you. There are lots of 16 year olds on campuses, but they are that much closer to maturity and 18 year olds. Two years separating people in a dorm is very different from 4 or 5. Aren’t there colleges you can go to near home, where your parents can still be responsible parents and care for you the way they should at your age, and you can pursue your studies? You can go to grad school elsewhere.

I’m sorry I let this thread get old haha
To answer your question, teachandmom, most of the colleges in the area are rather adamant about allowing younger children live in the dorm or even attend the university. As of now, both my parents and I are very excited about going on to college. I feel I am ready to move on and tackle the more challenging coursework as opposed to vegetating in my normal high school and dual enrollment environment. It’s also extremely important to me that I get an excellent education in my undergraduate years so that I am able to succeed if I need to go to graduate school.

Could you guys “chance” me in this thread or should I post a new thread to get more views and opinions?
