Thank you for mocking my unfortunate ethnicity.

There's nothing unfortunate about your ethnicity. You're a pretty well-rounded candidate for any college. But now you have to WOW me. You haven't managed that yet.

as you'llsee.... said, you're a pretty stereotypical asian, as you know. I don't see you getting admitted due to the many, many fairly homogenous, strong asian applicants out there.

I don't usually respond to chances threads. But a sure way of not getting into a college is by not applying. That said, you have an impressive record but you need to look beyond the most selective schools for matches and safeties. Remember that not all Ivies are the same or have the same admit rates.
There are some great schools with strong neurobiology programs. I'd suggest you take a look at some LACs. Wesleyan, Bowdoin, Williams, Swarthmore are all strong. Also Duke, Chicago, among mid-size universities. There are other schools as well with better admit rates than HYP. You could even qualify for merit aid at some.

it is unfortunate that if you were an African American, Latin-American, or Native American, you would almost (almost) be guaranteed admission. but i suppose that is simply the nature of the game, you might have had a better chance if you tried to set yourself apart sooner. maybe you should write an impassioned essay about why neurobiology inspires you.

you're eic of both newspaper and yearbook? president of nhs? and varsity tennis? top of your class? amazing sat scores? and a ridiculous amount of aps? no chance at all. try community college

you are way too good for community college. but just too plain for HYPS. however, there's no doubt that you can still get into a top tier non ivy school.

Heck, he should enroll in phlebotomist training school, or maybe pharmacy tech vocational training. haha
I think he should apply to any/all ivies; surely one of them will be impressed enough with the eic of newpaper and yearbook that they'll take a bite. Here's some sound advice that got my friend's asian son into Penn: Send copies of your newpaper with articles you've written. Send pictures of you winning a track event. Once they SEE Y O U, you'll shine.

These ppl are being very harsh. Trust me, as an international student who has just gone through college app process, I think I have a pretty good idea of college app process at the ivies.

"reject at ivies. you don't stand out at all."
Totally ludicrous in my opinion. There aren't thousands of international olympiad winners and olympic medalists in the applicant pool. Your well-roundedness will make you standout at lower ivies, so you'll get into most of them (like Brown, Cornell, Dartmouth, etc). I know so many ppl who had far worse stats than you (and they were canadian, so probably greater competition) and got into places like UPenn and Cornell.

Also, you say at your school, about 2~3 kids get into HYPMS every year. Well, you are ranked top 3 at your school. That means that you definitely have a chance at one of those schools. I'd think that while you won't get into all of them, you'll get into like 1~2 of those universities.

oh yeah and please stop complaining about your ethnicity (even if you are half-joking about it). At least you are a US citizen. International students like me (and I am South Korean) have more way harsher competition than you do.

Man, be proud that Asians are so smart that we have stiff competition amongst ourselves =)

Well, the reason I asked that, you'llsee, was that you have similar stats to me... I was merely wondering which Community Colleges you were applying to.
