Hey guys, I was just wondering. Would the Academy take my appointment away on I-Day if my gpa dropped??!! Mine was like a 3.5 now it’s a 3.45. Is it a really bad drop? Will they take my appointment away?!

hm

.........no.......

You need under a 2.0 for them to take your appointment away...

I'm not sure about the "you have to have it drop below a 2.0 to get it taken away" but as far as your situaton goes, don't worry about it.

Well, in the Instructions to Appointees booklet, it says something to the effect of "in order to be considered satisfactory, you must maintain at least a 2.0/4.0 GPA with no classes below C". That may only be for conditional appointments, but I'm pretty sure that that statement generally applies to everyone.

3.5 to a 3.45, what is that, a single B more than before? Dude, really, think about it. ;)

To anyone else that is concerned, as long as you don't get a D in anything, or slack off in a clear, obvious, and significant manner, you're definitely fine. It'd have to be really bad in order for them to yank an appointment (presumably well-earned and deserved) away from someone.

Don't get a C and you should be fine.

<sigh> okay, I guess I can live with ONE C in AP Psychology.</sigh>

Won't kill you. ;) We'll see you on I-day, can't get rid of ya that easily. :D

So hamarcelo, I am confused, where are you going, USAFA of NAPS?

I'm soooo confused too!!! They're both good, but I have to make a decision soon so another kid can go to his or her dream school. Just don't know which one! My parents are giving me like up til 12 midnight to decide my future in the next 20 or so years. Well, yeah. That's pretty much it.

Air Force Academy
pros:
I get in direct for the class of 2010
I'm near anything that deals with NASA
I have upperclassmen friends
I'm in the military
I'm in one of the best schools in the nation
4-year program
Air Force sounds nice

cons:
BCT is gonna suck
I can't fly
It's gonna be really cold
not as prepared as the preps and priors
I'm not near the ocean
I'm getting pre-bct jitters

Naval Academy
pros:
get to follow my family heritage of being in the navy
prep school would be an easier transition to the academy's rigors
I have friends that will be my potential classmates
They also have stuff that deals with NASA
I'm in the Military
I'm in one of the best schools in the nation
If I go prep I get to enjoy the summer untill august 8

cons:
Plebe summer is gonna to suck
I can't fly
I'm not so hot on the idea of being stuck in a ship for six months
what if I don't make it to NAPS?

Both:
need to have extreme desire to graduate (which i do :D)
failure is not an option

Do not go USNA to continue family heritage. Worst idea ever.
Don't go to USNA just because you can go prep. Seriously, why is it good to go an extra year?

Seems like all your pros and cons are the same. Let's narrow it down.

Okay, not much left. Anything else?

NAPS or appointment? NAPS/Whatever USAFA's is called doesn't mean jack as far as appointment.

Technically, you could get a C in every single class, and still be fine. Of course, that would be a foolish risk so DON'T DO IT, but unless I am mistaken, which is quite possible, you would need to get a D in something, or get below 2.0 (which would require D's).

Yeah, I said that wrong. It's still a decent idea though. Have that safety net.

HA! It worked! I got hamarcelo to choose USAFA!

Well, of course I didn't REALLY...but still. One more classmate!!! :-D

wow, you are way too tense, calm down a little, the end of the world is not upon us. Whatever you decide will be ok, and this decision is not like getting married, it's really not that hard to change your mind.

what if you got a D for the quarter, but the final grade was a C?

What if the sky falls down?

NOBODY KNOWS. Except your AC (admissions counselor) and the AB (admissions board). You can talk to your AC about it, but in the end it's the AB.

I don't know. I had a B in the last quarter but a C for the final in psychology.
