Ahhh help me my world shifted pretty quickly.

So up until yesterday, I was sure that I was going to go to a local private school, the #1 ranked in the south. I know the admissions counselors and they know me, and they told me that I was going to be in the running for their full scholarships.

I was all well and dandy with that. I was going to be content, but I think I might have been just settling for it. I was going to do it ED to get it out of the way.

So I dug up my old list of colleges from when I was obsessed with going up north... and about 6 of the 15 struck me as I "I really should apply there." So I think I am going to make Rollins my safety and to them RD as a backup. Tell me what you think about these other 6 schools:

Yale
Brown
Northwestern
Amherst
Colgate
Tufts

I imagine that the first 4 will be reaches and the last two will be matches, but your input will be appreciated.

Thanks for your input, it is appreciated.

As you said, you should be in at Tufts and Colgate. I think you are likely to be accepted at Northwestern, too. Brown -- 50/50. Yale -- chances are the same as the average applicant to HYP, maybe a little higher or lower, depending on the applicant pool. I don't know much about Amherst.

You seem pretty dedicated to music. Maybe you could write an essay about your musical experiences? Definitely send in a professionally recorded sample of your playing to Yale.

Thanks, music is my passion... more specifically jazz bass. I sent an email to the jazz director at brown and yale a few months ago. Never heard anything from Yale, but brown said that if he liked my recordings it would have a serious pull on my admissions. So who knows.

Thanks a lot for replying :).

Bump.

:)

Bump.

Gotta fill out NMSF paperwork today, fun... then finish common app tomorrow.

Oh, and I don't think it will make much of a difference, but Yale will be SCEA...

Don't apply SCEA to yale, its too much of a reach. Northwestern, however, is a likely to get in. Colgate and tufts are by no means safeties but are good shots.
