OK any students who took general chemistry....what did you guys think of the class?! PROFESSOR DAVID ADAMS freaks me out!!!! Should I skip general chemistry and take a higher class? If you take general chemistry do you automatically get placed with adams?!

Hmmm, I have never heard of David Adams. When I took general chemistry, the professors for first semester were Turro and Fine (go w/Turro if possible), and the professors for second semester were Brus and Valentini (can't really go wrong with either one, in my opinion). If you have a good background in high school chemistry, gen chem should not be a problem at all. You've basically seen everything already. There is also intensive chem, but most people just take gen chem (especially among premeds).

Have you taken general chemistry in high school? You'll die in organic if you haven't.

yeah I def. want turro... but I dont understand how thecourse registration works...can you just switch out of class if you dont like the professor?

oh, and other question...i've taken AP chem........but what are the benefits, if any, from taking organic?

I was thinking about taking intensive organic chem, but how hard is it? And would I eventually take it anyway? I'm planning to major in biochemistry.

hey yeah me too...eh this thread is pointless no current students visit this site anymore anyway..

I was going to take the AP credit for chem, but I talked to my teacher about it and she said if you can possibly avoid it, don't take organic chem; since I'm going to major in English, I'm going to take intensive gen chem. I have a question though, is intensive gen chem one semester and the lab one semester or is intensive gen chem a full year and the lab one semester?

www.culpa.info should give u all u need to know about most classes

If you did very well in AP Chem and scored a 5, you're ready for the more difficult organic course. To major in chemistry you'll have to take it eventually anyway, so there's really no reason to repeat what you did in the AP class.

You could take Intensive General Chemistry which is suggested for those who got a 4 or 5 on the AP Chem test. That's what I'm planning on doing to fulfill my science requirement because I'm not majoring in chemistry or going to med school or anything.
