Is the amount of financial aid that FAFSA gives you applicable to overseas institutions, ie. UK, and are grants from the U.S. government limited to domestic universities? I think it would make sense that grants be restrictive while FAFSA provides a bit more freedom but then again I don't know too much about this.

It depends on your school and the overseas program. At my daughter's school there are 2 different study abroad programs.

The first is the reciprocal agreement program. In that one the student stays enrolled at their own university and pays tuition and fees there as usual while . Most scholarships and financial aid stay in place.

The other program is the affiliated/approved program. The student does not stay enrolled at the home university so institutional scholarships do not apply but supposedly federal aid does.

Well what I meant to imply was that if I enrolled in a university in England would I still be eligible to receive government grants and financial aid from FAFSA and apply that to the tuition. I'd prefer to avoid taking out significantly large loans to cover my college costs.
