I've read many threads, but most of them only mention aids for US citizens. So I'm wondering if there is any financial aid and scholarship for international students (espiecially Asian students), both need-based and merit-based. If yes, could you please give me a few names ?

The best aid comes directly from the schools. Here are some links to help:

Without knowing your GPA and SAT or ACT scores, it is very hard to give you suggestions.

There are only six colleges that are both need blind for admissions AND meet full financial need for international students.

Other schools are either need aware for admissions (meaning that your ability to pay will be considered when your application for admission is reviewed. OR they don’t meet full need for all international students…so you might not get sufficient need based aid even if accepted.

Can your family pay any money towards your college costs?

Thank you all for replying. Personally, I’d prefer need blind to full need, since I will be at serious disadvantage with need aware schools. Even if the schools are need blind, they will reduce need-based aids if I get outside scholarships, so I’m mainly looking for merit-based scholarships from both schools and outside organizations.

My family can pay about $5000/year, but for how many years is still under questions.

<a href=“Best Business Schools - #5 by collegeee123454 - College Search & Selection - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/discussion/comment/17609572 - my stats are there.

International students receive very little merit or because the competition is fierce. You don’t qualify for federal aid, so you need to consider schools where your stats are higher than the average student, and there aren’t that many that fit.

check Colgate U

Come back after you have actually taken the SAT. The six colleges that are need blind AND meet full need for all international students are highly competitive for admissions, and even more highly competitive for Asian international students. You would need tippy top SAT scores to be competitive for admissions to those six schools. Even IF you get a tippy top SAT score, you still would not be guaranteed acceptance…as these schools accept about 10% of applicants! and even a lower %age of international applicants.

I know it’s a bit late to ask this…but why did you wait so long to take your first SAT administration?

ETA the following right off the Colgate website:

Colgate does not meet full need for all international students, and it looks like they give their limited aid to highly qualified applicants. Until this OP actually has an SAT score, there is no way to determine if she is highly qualified…or not. And even if she has a high score, since Colgate doesn’t guarantee to meet full need for international students, it’s highly likely they won’t.

5k might cover international travel and health insurance, so you really need an all expenses paid package. What you want to ask yourself is: At what school is the endowment SO huge or am I SO special that the institution is willing to forego any income from me in the form of tuition/fees/books AND is also willing to house and feed me FREE for 4 years. In addition, that institution needs to be willing to reach into its own money earmarked for payroll and give me a job so I can buy shampoo, winter boots, etc.

It can happen, but it’s rare. You’ve got to apply to the right schools for you (those where you are that special), and you’re going to need some luck. Don’t be too hung up on the need blind for admissions schools. Need blind for admissions doesn’t help you if an institution accepts you but then gives you no aid towards attending.
