Aiming a market research career-- what should my major be in college?

Ecocomics? Sociology? Psychology? (PS. considering only the major majors that most colleges have thus ignore majors such as marketing, business.....)

or should I do whatever interested me then pursue a MBA degree?

The one I saw looked for wide range of majors, even Science and Math. I think only Bachelor’s degree is enough for getting an entry-level Market Researcher job

“considering only the major majors that most colleges have thus ignore majors such as marketing, business…”

So you’re going to base your major decision and future career on both a) the false assumption that most colleges do not offer business degrees and, b) even if the assumption was true, “what most colleges have” instead of what your college has and/or your career goals??? Or am i misunderstanding?

My friend with a career in market research majored in psych as both a grad student and undergrad. She went to an elite LAC, not the type of undergrad school that offers “business” or “marketing” majors. Familiarity with statistical analysis software packages commonly used in the social sciences seems to be cited as a prereq most of the time.

I’m in this field. My background is economics and math, but lots of psych and soc majors – as long as they have good quant skills. My business partner was a communications major. Not so many undergrad business majors IME. Btw there is a masters of mkt rsch at the U of GA and I know quite a few grads of that program.
