Air Conditioning

What schools have air conditioned dorms? (preferably elite schools)

It probably depends on the dorm. I'd say most dorms are air conditioned.

99% of schools in the South...

haha, definitely aswat! We'd all die down here without them, seeing as how it was 100+ ALL of last week and pretty close this week so far (projected high tomorrow: 100, which means it'll probably be about 103). loves her a/c

Most dorms in the Northeast do not have air conditioning.

Not all dorms in Virginia have air conditioning. At W&M, there are only 2 freshman dorms with air conditioning, and I know it is similar at UVA

can you bring one of those portable air conditioners then?

^Most likely not. My dorm doesn't have AC and you are NOT allowed to bring your own unit. The reason probably has to do with electric bills and too many people drawing too much power.

Hopkins dorms have A/C... well, some at least. Wolman Hall and Buildings A/B have A/C, the AMRs do not have A/C.

Villanova dorms have AC...at least the ones 20 minutes (by walk) away from campus.

remember that dorms at many many many schools (especially on the East coast, definitely in New England) are very old buildings and installing A/C throughout the building would cost millions of dollars. then room rates would increase and instead of complaining about no a/c, people would be complaining about higher room rates.

unless you're in a southern state you really shouldn't need A/C for more than 2-3 months out of the school year, and you can live with a fan. you will not die from the fan, unless you're really drunk and do something stupid. that's why we don't have a/c in our rec center--it would only really be needed for a couple months.

I spent an entire summer (in the south) in a dorm without air conditioning in high school, and it was manageable. I think that once you get used to not having it, it's not a big deal anymore. That said all the dorms at Wake Forest have air conditioning, and it's nice.

Bryn Mawr does not have a/c and does not allow you to have your own unit unless you have a thoroughly documented medical reason to need it.

i think it varies by college. for example, i go to school in the northeast and we have air conditioned dorms. they are set to heat in the winter and cool in the spring/summer.
