<p>In making Christmas air reservations, I see that classes resume in January 2006 several days after registration opens. Do kids need to return in time for registration or do they do that online from home? Or, do they want to return a few days prior to classes resuming?</p>
<p>For Thanksgiving, we are going to make air res; but thinking that S may decide the trip is too long and make alternate plans with a new friend. We figure we will pay the $75+- penalty to use the reservations for a different trip if he does this. Anyone have a different approach or think this is a mistake?</p>
<p>All the dorms close over winter break except Aron and Rosen, so your son won't have a place to stay. I'd recommend he comes back a couple days before classes start again in january. The date when dorms re-open may be on the HRL website, but <a href="http://www.tulane.edu%5B/url%5D">www.tulane.edu</a> is down for the next few days. Your kid should leave a day after his last final, but thats not really enforced. What is enforced is leaving the morning after the very last final given by 10 AM. </p>
<p>For thanksgiving, it's your call. Freshman year most of my friends went home for break. As kids get older its more likely they stay. I'd recommend having him fly home.</p>
<p>You actually register the previous semester. Once your son knows his schedule for the fall, you can check the exam schedule and know when his last exam is. That way you will know what day is good to come home.</p>
<p>One other consideration, although I don't know the answer.</p>
<p>It's my understanding that Tulane does 2nd semester rush for fraternities and sororities. When my daughter had this at another college, all the kids potentially interested in participating actually arrived on campus about a week in advance of classes starting.</p>
<p>I don't know if it works the same way at Tulane or not, but if so, it could affect the timing, depending on whether the student is considering greek life.</p>
<p>My son did not go back early for rush; besides, the dorms are not opened. I do not remember what the date is the dorms open, but I don't think there is any reason to go back early.</p>
<p>Rush is always after classes start, normally just after the first week. Your D should come back when the dorms re-open for spring classes. Schedule your flights around when the dorms open and close and you will be fine.</p>
