For those students who are way OOS and need to fly into the airport, how do you get to the campus?

City bus, shuttle, etc.

I am especially interested in public (read low cost) transportation as I live on a student budget.

Also, does the University run a shuttle to the airport at the the peak travel dates like the begining and end of each semester, spring break, etc. ?

I don't know about the shuttle during peak travel times, but we do have the Light Rail from the airport going to several different stops in Minneapolis. I'd recommend getting of at the Metrodome/Chicago Ave. stop and then you'll only have to go one stop on the city bus. Although it's basically easy to get to the U from any stop as long as you know what bus to take. If you need that info look at the Minnesota Metro Transit website, it should have all the routes.

Oh, and read some of the info about the UPass too. It's incredibly handy since you can ride all the city buses and the Light Rail for around $80 a semester.

The Upass is amazing!!! D is a freshman and it is the best $80 we spent in the "What she needs" category of college life. It has also made her feel like she has total freedom to go anywhere in the greater Minneapolis/St. Paul area. AND all the buses have bike racks on the front of them. One day she road out on her bike to Lake Calhoun to sit and study, etc. a beautiful but long ride on the Metro Greenway trail. So, she took the bus back to campus and the driver even got out and put her bike in the rack for her since it was her first time to try that. She has even kind of become the "Bus Queen" as all her friends come to her and ask "Can we get to [here] on the bus?" and she helps them figure it out.
