I am a high school senior and I live approximately 4 hours from any of these colleges, so I would be "going off" to college regardless. My dad wants me to go instate because it would not cost him anything, and I have accepted that. So with that said, I intend to major in Finance and possibly double major with Economics. I also want to spend a semester abroad in Paris, and all three schools offer this so that is not really a deal breaker.

-I know Alabama and Auburn offer the traditional campus, that I do like.
-Alabama has a Model United nations organization, that I would very much enjoy. (I've participated in Model UN all four years of high school.)
-UAB is in the heart of Metro Birmingham and I love the city and Birmingham currently has a lot going for it.
-Auburn is close to Metro Atlanta, which is where I moved to Baldwin County, AL from.
-Alabama has the overall best ranked business school.
-UAB is one of the top 15 up and coming universities this year.
-UAB also is the most diverse of the three which I like.

I have toured UAB, and I will be attending the next UAB day to get a second opinion.
I will be touring Alabama and Auburn soon to get my feel for both schools.

My goal is to work for a large corporation, hopefully in a Northeastern city (i.e. Philadelphia, New York, or Boston).

Now I have a lot of factors effecting my choice in which school I should attend. Any opinions to drive me towards one school or another?

You should probably ask your question about Bama in the Bama forum here on CC…

<a href=“University of Alabama - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-alabama/

Do you have the stats for a good sized merit scholarship?

It is of interest to me that you mention only where Auburn is and say nothing about what attracts you to it. Alarms are going off in my head.

the auburn-alabama debate has been much dramatized in CC. look it up.

@mom2collegekids The amount of scholarships isn’t a factor for me. Also thank you for the link.

@jkeil911 Auburn is ranked either 29th or 31st among public business schools and 51st overall from their website, Auburn has a lot going for the city, and my friends that live in Auburn say they thoroughly enjoy what the town has to offer. Auburn and Tuscaloosa are both college towns, but both are tremendously different in their demographics alone. So it is hard to compare, but I do value personal input on colleges. Such as sharing a personal experience or your knowledge does contribute greatly.

P.S.
Football or Athletics have nothing to do with any of these schools, I am a Florida fan.

Yeah, my judgment was not of or about Auburn but about the fact that you barely mentioned it among the comparatively glowing reports on UA and UAB. That suggested to me the possibility that you think Auburn is third on your list or that auburn is being pushed on you by family. But that appears not to be the case now.

And saying football has nothing to do with any of these schools when you declare yourself a Florida fan is a not very convincing argument for not being interested in Auburn or Alabama for their football. Where are you going to be on Saturday afternoons no matter what school you end up attending? It won’t be Gainesville, will it, unless Auburn or Alabama is playing Florida, and it won’t be the library either, will it?

When will you be touring Bama? I think if you visit, you will see that it has diversity like UAB. Are you a particular ethnic group?

I’m not sure what you’re referring to when you mention Tuscaloosa. Ttown is larger than a “college town”. Yes, the city loves its Univ, but its a good-sized city. It doesn’t just exist because a Univ is there. It was a one-time capital of the state.

@jkeil911 lol He’ll probably be attending his school’s game unless FL is playing at the same time. If so, he’ll be at a TV watching his Gators. With FL in the eastern division of the SEC, he can cheer on his home school, except for SEC championships or the occasional time his school plays FL during the regular season. (good thing he’s not considering LSU).

If you want to stay a Florida fan, then UAB is your best choice. You will switch loyalty if you attend Auburn or 'Bama. Guaranteed.

More seriously, I would not attend UAB for anything other than health sciences. 'Bama has a much better business school than Auburn. #76 vs #119 according to BusinessWeek. 'Bama’s campus is nicer too.

@jkeil911 I would rather attend a local game than go hours away to watch Florida play, my high school has a record of 1-5 this year and I still enjoy going to the games.

Does anyone know anything about job placement rates and etc?
I have contacted Alabama for more information, but they have yet to reply. I want to be able to do many internships, and also have strong Alumni connections at the same time.
For instance the CEO of Apple graduated from my high school, and Auburn for his undergrad. I believe the former CFO of Coca-Cola graduated from Alabama. So again it is a crapshoot for me.

I have a fondness for UAB but I defer to M2CK in all things Alabama. Yes, UAB’s strong suit is health sciences, and you’ll find some complaints from students in other majors about being neglected, but UAB is spending money on other departments. As for the UAB campus, you can see that A LOT of money has gone to improvements.
