Hey guys,
I was wondering how the alcohol scene is at georgetown and an estimated percentage of how many smoke marijuana....--not much for smokin weed but was wondering what the scene is like at gtown

Georgetown is definitely a drinking school more than anything else. I'd say about 60-70% of the students drink regularly. Even if you don't drink, there are tons of non alcohol-related activities on campus, and there isn't really any pressure to drink at parties. The weed scene is way smaller, I'd say maybe 20% of the students. Out of my group of friends and acquaintances, almost none of them smoke, but I'm sure there are groups of kids here that do.

hey kid, the whole point of college is that youre supposed to GROW UP. weed is for kids that move into their mom's basement, not a college dorm at a top-ranked uni.

.......Well said.........

not true at all. but that's your opinion.

Shapeofhome--- that was incredibly uneducated. Marijuana smoking is not a sign of immaturity, and thinking it is is in fact, more of a sign of immaturity. A wide span of people smoke, from those who "move into their mom's basement" to students at Harvard. I think you are the one who needs to grow up and not judge people based on that. (BTW, I personally am not a smoker. Everyone makes their own decisions.)

yeah...what salpert said. btw, i've never smoked either.

college is also about experimentation and having fun...

If you said that to most kids from SF Bay Area, you'd be considered an ignorant fool. I go to a great school, and can find weed in nearly every class wednesday-friday after lunch. We joke about the top 50 parties, the huge parties where the most stoned/drunk kids are the top 50 ranked in the grade.

Marijuana is more prevalent here than alcohol is...great way to grow up.

I have to agree that drug use is a sign of immaturity...it's a form of escapism; it shows that you're not mature enough to handle life's problems.

Finally! someone agrees with me :) I'm not just making some random judgement without having a clue, it's something I believe after having experimented with both substances.

Not true for the great majority of college kids who use drugs/alcohol as a form of RECREATION, not coping.

If it really was escapist, you wouldn't see kids smoking together in groups at parties, they would be by themselves.

Whatever your view on weed is, it's not that big at Georgetown....so just keep that in mind if you're looking for a weed scene/school.

I'm not sure about that. A couple of my roommates are huge potheads so naturally I meet a lot of people who are as well. Maybe I'm biased because of that. But I tend to think that the use of weed at Georgetown is just less out in the open than at other schools.
