Is the stereotype true that all of Columbia students do not drink, or if they do, very little? If not what is the drinking scene like at Columbia. What about drug use? I am just very interested in learning about little things about this college that is not mentioned usually. Thx.

Where on earth did you hear that? Hello, this is college, use your head. Someone I know there has found a group of friends who don't drink. They only have drinks when they go to restaurants, which don't check age. Some people drink. Some don't. Seems pretty obvious to me. It's like that everywhere. And also you will smell pot on campus out in the open.

I heard that from some people in my school and there was some article on-line that "took" a survey and like 80% of the people said they hardly drank, or something like that. Also, are there lots of dorm parties or frat parties, or is the bar scene basically where people drink?

The guy I know there drinks a lot and says that the cops and administration are really lax about underage drinking. Kind of a wink-wink-knudge-knudge just don't puke in the halls type of environment. As for drug use for those who get caught, you get a slap on the wrist for using and you get kicked out for supplying. I haven't heard about CU being particularly different from most schools on these things.

Um, I'm not sure where you get your info, but I can tell you that more than 20% of people drink. There are plenty of bars in the area, hundreds more in New York, and, if you're a member or friends with members, there's a decent Greek scene, but only for those who are Greek, really.

i drink a lot

i smoke a lot

im goin to columbia

hellllll yeahhh - now you know there will be at least 1 drinker/user

i dont do heavy stuff though - no cocaine, no heroin, no crazy stuff like that

only alcohol in every form, and weed

what do the rest of you do/not do?

I do none of that and I'm going. There's the opposite extreme.

From what I saw in the past week, drinking was pretty bad on campus. Probably just a result of the increased number of parties coinciding with finals. Lots of suits walking out of Uris (Business School) with cans of beer. It wasn't uncommon to see students ****ing on the South Lawn (in front of the library). These weeks are somewhat unique though.

When the weather gets nice and the year is ending, some of us like to pretend we go to a party school.

****ing as in f u c k ing? i thought i was liberal.

no. as in p!ssing.

lol. i was going to say...

Yeah Redge!!!!! We can hang. But not all the time. I am a big believer in moderation.

Hm. If you ask me, public urination is worse than public expression of hormones :)

Actually, abcdefghijklm, some things you just don't want to know. . . .

I'm not much into the whole drinking scene myself, but it's not like everyone on campus drinks anyway. There will be people that do and people that don't; everyone has their own niche.

haha moderation, of course

wouldn't have it any other way

if i didnt do it in moderation, how could i have gotten here?

Shout out to redge! Woot.

remember: everything in moderation, including moderation ;)
