Posts: 67 Consequences for Being Caught Drunk or Using Drugs in Dorms

Okay. Let me put this out there: I believe that students who get drunk repeatedly or who are high from any drugs should be kicked out. My impression is that this behavior is tolerated, and I can't understand why it would be.

If anybody has any knowledge of specific schools and how they have been handling this problem, I'd like to hear about it. Thanks.

If you wanna go to a school with few drinking, you should probably check out some religious or conservative schools. They'll probably kick out people for getting drunk, high, whatever. Usually schools can't kick out people who drink because that's about the 60 percent of the population right there

usc is known for having parties, but it isn't a party school. most colleges (other than the aforementioned conservative ones) have parties every week..every night. there is an alcohol culture at most schools.

if you don't drink, fine. and if you believe students should get kicked out...fine. just don't go to usc, because they won't be kicking anyone out for drinking.

kids may get kicked out of the DORMS for being written up too much, but not from the school itself.

i understand that most schools kick kids out of univ. housing if they are found with drugs.

and how do you answer the point about people who get drunk that are over 21? should they be kicked out for something that they can legally do?

at most schools, underage kids who get caught have to appear before student court and have to write essays/do community service/something, and they usually get a few strikes before getting kicked out of university housing.

but why does it matter what kids are gonna do if you dont have to do it with them? no one is going to give you a hard time for doing what you do--so you shouldnt care what anyone else does. it's college--no one is gonna laugh at you if you don't drink, and no one's gonna beg you to drink either.

It all depends. There's certainly a wide range in terms of underage drinking. It certainly doesn't make a person bad, even if he stumbles into a bathroom stall at 2 in the morning, haha. In general, I'm against people drinking, but I really did learn to tolerate it last year. The RA on my floor last year didn't care. He knew what was going on, but he let it slide. I think that most RA's would write people up, but there is the occasional chill RA (like mine last year, who was a godsend for the people who drank on my floor). I've been offered drinks, but I've never been pressured to drink.

I technically drink... just non-alcoholic beverages, like juice and water. :)

As far as I know, the official RA policy is something like: If an RA sees someone underage with alcohol, they will make you pour the alcohol into the sink and write a report. I can tell you more in a few weeks when I actually hear it.

RAs are usually really loose, I haven't heard too much about people getting written up for drinking. In my floor, guys even had a beer pong table in their room and the RA didn't care. (when the year was over all of their bottles and cans filled several trash cans, lolll) They had beer boxes out all the time, but the RA didn't care..
