My friend was having a party at her house a few months ago, and she was underage drinking as a HS senior. There are some pictures of her holding alcohol, but she’s never put them out on public social media - only on her private accounts. She’s anxious that someone may have kept these pictures (even though she deleted them) and will try to sabotage her acceptances by sharing these pictures to her colleges.
I’ve come to CC to ask you all if this situation can lead to her acceptance getting revoked? I know drinking shouldn’t be done at this age, but she’s only done it this one time and she’s an excellent student. I’m curious as to how colleges would take this situation, as it is not as extreme as drunk driving or smoking marijuana.
One picture, taken by One person of One instance is all it takes. A single selfie of someone else with her in the background, holding that bottle of Bud, with her name tagged.
From that one picture, anyone who sees it is free to draw any conclusions they choose. Sure, they might believe it was a single isolated instance. Or they might choose to believe it’s part of a bigger pattern. There’s no way to tell, and no way to prevent someone from drawing the wrong conclusion.
The only way to prevent it is to not be in a picture holding that bottle of Bud. You say she deleted them. You know as well as I do that it’s impossible to “delete” pictures… once they’ve been taken and shared with one person, the entire world has access to them.
