Algebra 2 @ prep school

Look at the time of my posts. You don't know how to read time wowzerz. I've been going to bed at 9:00-10:00. I post one or two messages then I log off and do better things. If you look at the time i posted, I've never posted at 1:00 in the morning,

Don't lie again ZPM you didn't get an A.

Harvard and High School are different.
YOU DON'T NEED AN EXAM TO ENTER HIGH SCHOOL.
YOU HAVE TO DO MANY THINGS TO GO TO HARVARD UNLIKE HIGH SCHOOL.
SOME APS AREN'T EVEN COUNTED AS COLLEGE CREDIT.
THE AP COURSES AREN'T TAUGHT AT HARVARD.

Masterus, the only one who's lying over here is your majesty. You lie constantly.
Cease telling people that they're idiots, because the true idiot is too obvious to name.

Take a reading course and start learning how to comprehend text.

ZPM Why are you so ignorant. I've taken classes AT THE HIGH SCHOOL. How many times do i have to say it? They are real high school classes, because they were taken AT THE HIGH SCHOOL. They're on a seperate Report Card as well. You, however, did not take classes in the middle school.

Masterus, you and I both know this is pointless. You will continue to deny that I could have possibly earned an A in Calculus, while I respond with the truth. Really, I don't give a damn if you believe me or not. I don't need to go around bragging about my grades or courseload or fishing for compliments on a college message board. I know that I recieved the 99.7%, I am proud of it and will continue to be.

For the last time, you're not as "special" as you think you are Masterus. I took classes at the high school too, its not a big deal. My friends and I all knew it was just what we had to do if we wanted to be challenged. Lots of people do. Its not uncommon, but if you are sure this is going to "get you into Harvard" or "people will bow down to your courseload" then go ahead and continue boasting. It is and will continue to be quite pathetic, but that is your choice.

I officially declare this thread OVER ;)

Maybe you need to retake that class. You know that anything<99.9 is an auto-rejection from every college?

zpm, you can't declare this is over because it's not your thread, it's wowzers. By the way you didn't. I haven't bragged about my schedule at all. Reread the posts. it is obvious you haven't because I didn't brag. Nice of you to say what I said last month. I said "I don't care if you guys don't beleive me. I know I'm going to Harvard."

felt under table and started rolling from attacks of nervous laugh

chipset he didn't get an A if you read his posts. he was whining before. Get your facts straight. What do you mean go to a reading comprehension class? I replied to what you said and that's the truth entering High School is nothing like entering College.

Not true for some of the schools and some of the colleges.

Public, which you and I go to. the subject of that was zpm.

Yes, I cry myself to sleep every night over it. Such a failure. Too think I will never get into college :( I will probably end up living in a box downtown, jobless with a depressing life. Please donate to me, Masterus! I'm sure you're going to be rich with that great attitude of yours. Its all so depressing, my life being ruined because of my sub-par differentiation skills ;)

I'm sorry, but does anybody else find this question incredibly hilarious. Just seems a little ironic, she's having trouble comprehending your post about a reading comprehension class ;)

I ended up swallowing my pride and emailed the teacher about my situation. I told him I didn't feel very confident that I had mastered the concepts and would like the opportunity to have more practice because I know I will need Calculus a lot in engineering and physics. I've ended up in a very small afternoon class with only 12 students and the best teacher I've ever had! I'm now almost done with the course and loving Calculus more than ever. The teacher I have this quarter is very enthusiastic about the subject and explains all the concepts extremely clearly. It's finally clicked for me and I'm excelling in the class. I recieved a +102/100 on my midterm test last week and have the highest grade in the class. I'm the only girl in the class, so the guys are having a little hard time accepting that I have the highest grade, but they're getting used to it ;)

Clearly, you must have missed this follow-up post, Masterus ;) You might also find the last sentence helpful when referring to my gender. As mr_chipset kindly pointed out, I am not a he ;)

I'm a guy and that wans't to you. It was for mr.chipset. You don't know what we're talking about.

No you didn't because people don't do extra credit on Mid-Terms in College. I can see you're clearly lying. You got a C for the year.

Okay... if it makes you feel better, then keep telling yourself that. The extra credit question had to do with spherical coordinate systems, but whatev. As I said earlier, I'm done with this thread. Its obvious you're not going to accept the truth and its pointless to keep arguing about it.

No, you're right I'm going to accept a lie. Think what you want. I'll think what I want. Bye.

Masterus you can't prove what grade she did or did not get. Oh..and bye you little social retard.

My d just finished her freshman year at a prep school. She was placed in
honors geometry and ended up with an honors level grade for the second semester (85; first semester slightly lower). In addition, she got a great
grade on the final exam, an A-.

This is my question. Despite what one would consider a strong performance
in a tough course, she was not selected for honors algebra II this coming
(sophomore) year. She took honors algebra I in the eighth grade and did
well. Her math score on the SSAT was 96th percentile.

Should I be bothered by this? Won't colleges be concerned when they
see that she dropped to non-honors level math? She herself is not
overly concerned because she was selected for honors science
and will also be taking an AP course in another subject. But I don't
really get it. Maybe it would be overload to take it, and her GPA could
suffer. But it still bothers me.

I need your opinions, fellow CC'ers. Thanks in advance.

Greenday read her posts. She posted about it and whined.

eiffel, You could call the Math Department Supervisor or her guidance counselor for her to be placed into Honors. there are parental overrides at some schools or you could talk with her teacher. I think Colleges would notice because in 10th grade she won't have an honors math class ,but she did in 9th grade. Honors is just "a little" faster paced, not much difference. I think you still should contact certain people about her placement. It's not like a school to move a person down from a level even if they do well.

Since she did well on her exam, you could use that to justify why she should be placed into Honors. Also, because she did well in Algebra 1 Honors, it is very likely she will suceed in Algebra 2 Honors. Algebra 2 is just a continuation of the concepts in Algebra 1.

this is actually very common for prep schools to do. it might be because of her 85 which in prep school could be considered low compared to the other students. for example at my school there are only 14 students going into algebra II honors freshman year out of 200 so it is not always as easy just to say i want my child in algebra II honors. what i would suggest is that you talk to the department chair and have them tell you why they put ur daughter in a regular class. in my case this helped alot. but it won't always work. No her honors course load for a sophomore is low so this wouldn't be to much to handle. At my school despite that im just a freshman we have started scheduling for sophomore year too and i have six of seven classes as honors so if she is applying to top schools she should probably talk to the department chair. hope this helped.

and to masterus when i said that some people have no life posting at 4am in the morning i wasn't talking about u. not everything on this thread is about u it was supposed to be about my question remember. i was actually talking about somebody who said that incoming freshmen didn't need to be on here.

They're not going to just say "No". No teacher does that kind of thing. Yeah that's a large number because there are 14 kids out of a 500 grade in Algebra 2 Honors next year. 2 kids in Pre-Calculus Honors.(Including me in that duo) Honors is nothing really different. Trust me when I say this. It would be in your best interest to find out about why. The grade for the semester shouldn't be how they measure a student's potential. Potential is measured by how fast she is able to comprehend the material and utilize it. Your daughter should be placed into Honors because she seems to have done well in her 2 previous courses.

You should pursue this thought, maybe you could make the stipulation that if she gets a B- or under she should be moved into standard. I doubt they will refuse because the school should look more at her Algebra year than her Geometry year.
