All about dobie!

im staying at dobie in the fall and i have a few questions:
what should i bring, as in dorm room stuff?
how big is the actual room?
are the closets big?
is the bed twin XL?

and is any girl staying in an efficiency still looking for a roommate at dobie? (:

I’m staying at Dobie, but in a Side Suite. Don’t know if you’ve seen it but theres a layout on the site for the efficiency along with the rest of the floor plans. It tells you where your bed will be located, sink, etc. Efficiency is the smallest, so you should know from the get-go that its going to be small. I’ve heard the rooms are bigger compared to the other dorms though. As for bringing stuff, call your roommate once you get their number to see if they’re bringing a t.v., shower curtain, etc. Good luck.

Hey!

I’m trying to figure out where I want to live. Can someone whose lived in Dobie before tell me more about their experience?

Hey guys, I spent this past year at Dobie so i’d be willing to answer any questions you have (and that I am able to answer). I lived in a studio so I can’t really tell you much about the size of an efficiency, but the beds are twin XL. I don’t know how closets worked in the other rooms, but there was plenty of space and two rows for hangings (top and bottom) and any other storage you have. Desks and chairs are provided and you may bring any kind of cooking appliance that does not produce an open flame. Quesadilla makers, george foreman grills, etc were all allowed. You will also need to bring a shower curtain because that isn’t provided for you either, but I suggest you bring a non-plastic one because my multi-colored plastic shower curtain ended up staining the shower wall and wouldn’t come off with anything other than bleach I bought at CVS. There’s plenty of counter space next to the sink for a microwave and maybe another appliance to stack on top of the microwave. Dobie rooms, in my opinion, are a little bigger than other dorms. I don’t know if this is true for all rooms however, but my room was also freshly painted and looked brand new. There is also a free weekly maid service, which is nice but can be annoying if you like to sleep in on Mondays… because they will come in to vacuum while you sleep or knock on your door until you open it (if its dead bolted).

So two things at Dobie that were hit and miss for me: the food and the elevators. The food wasn’t that bad. I thought it was going to be a lot worse based on the reviews I heard, but it wasn’t the best cafeteria food i’ve ever eaten either. You can always get something good at the grill though, but I hate eating burgers all the time so I often went upstairs to Dobie mall and got subway most days or ate the union. I can definitely say that i’m glad I don’t have to eat at Dobie anymore because the menu gets so repetitive. The elevators were SUCH a pain on class days and especially on the days it was too hot or too cold. There is always a mass of people waiting by the elevators and it can take over 10 minutes to catch one up or down. However several times I was also able to ride the elevator straight down or straight up alone, so it depends on when you are waiting for an elevator.

In a nutshell: Dobie wasn’t my favorite place, but I think it could be worse somewhere else.

Hope that helps

thank you soooooo much!

Which floor plan are you going with? Studio, suites?

ehhh just an efficiency
