I dont know what to do. I have all A's my first quarter of senior year and a 68 in AP Calc. My early decision school is going to see my first quarter grades. I've always had great grades, its just that I can't do math no matter how hard I try. I go to my teacher for extra help, I stay after school, I study for hours upon hours before test and quizzes and I still have this awful grade. What should I do? I hate myself so much right now. I'm not going to get into my top school even though my GPA from the last three years is in thier range. I can't believe I've wasted three years of hard work to get a D my senior year and ruin everything.

If you have done everything, see if you can get a WP (withdrawl while passing)… it looks better than a D…

First of all, relax. It’s not the end of the world. All A’s and a D isn’t bad. In fact, it’s pretty good if your other classes are just as difficult as AP Calc is. Don’t stress it. Colleges understand that mishaps happen. It won’t affect your statistics, which is what they really care about. Just work at it and get it up as high as you can for semester grades.

You are at a 68%… You are almost to a C! Don’t give up! This is good practice for college. You will not always receive A’s in college and you will most definitely have to struggle in a few classes. Learn from this experience and don’t quit. Keep trying your best. I know you will get it up to a C!

Thank you guys so much! I work so hard in school, and I don’t always do that great but I’ve never done this badly before. I feel so guilty sometimes because my parents sacrifice so much for me to send me to the high school that I go to and the least I can do is repay them by doing well in school and getting into a good college. I know some things are out of my realm of control, so I’ll have to get over it. I hope I can somehow get it up to an C-. I’m taking 2 other AP classes, I have lots of extra carriculars, and up until last week I was a full time intern for someone running in the Congressional Midterm Elections so its been really hard for me. I hope things get better.

Are you certain that your ED school will see your first quarter grades? Many schools do not have quarter grades on transcripts…only semester and final grades.

I actually just called the admission’s office of my ED school and they said that they want to see my first quarter grades even though they wont be on my transcript. I guess I’ll have to send in a copy of my report card or something.

It’ll hurt, but if everything else on your applications (ECs, essay, recommendations, SAT/ACT scores) looks good then you’re okay. Just curious, if you struggle with math why would you take AP Calc? …just challenging yourself, I guess?

Thanks, and yeah, I guess you could call it a challenge. My school is very AP driven and if you’re not taking at least 3 AP’s then you’re basically ignored by guidance counselors and considered to be at the bottom of the barrel. I like the course, I just don’t like the pressure that goes along with taking it or the part about actually being coerced into taking it.

D got into Harvard with all As and a C in Calculus.

Yeah, but a C looks much better than a D+ lol.
