I got into UCSD, but I had a d first semester in Calc AP! I am so scared that they will take it away! What can i do!? :{

Do you have a good reason why you got the D? If you do, you could send them a letter explaining the situation.

.........................

I get D's in English frequently and I got into MIT.....

Of course my class is damn hard and I'm bringing my D to a C+ then to a B-, but still don't sweat it.

o_o ... Wow, Sephiroth...

You got a serious case of senioritus?

No, I just am bad at English, my teacher despises me, and IB English HL is damn hard.

So I still have a chnace?? Even with a D?!

We had a very similar situation at our high school last year: the kid was in at UCSD and then got a D in first semester Biology. UCSD basically put his acceptance on hold and told him they wanted to see his second semester grades - the implication being that they better be a lot better.

He basically gave up and never sent in his follow-up grades. He ended up not going to college at all.

My recommendation: Work like crazy to bring that second semster grade up. Work closely with the teacher. Tell the teacher what you are up against and ask for his/her help. Hire an outside tutor if need be. Do every thing you can to pull this thing out.

correction

*chance

....I failed the second semester of AP Calc BC and I got into NYU....
Granted, I was a junior taking AP Calc, I got a 4 on the AP test, and, besides that class, I got all As... but still...
Just try to bring it up, and make sure your other grades don't slip...

All that matters is consistency.

If your grades were B+, then keep em there.

Thank you so much!! Your advice made me feel a lot better! I am going to work so hard this semester!

Be sure you let them know about it! If they all of a sudden see a D on your follow-up report, they'll definitely be pretty irritated that you didn't even mention it. Just explain to them that you're trying to bring it up, etc. You still have a chance, though, something similar happened to a friend of mine and they didn't revoke it.

talk to your teacher..at my school some of the AP teachers will change your grade if you get a 4 or 5 on the AP test. maybe a make a deal with you teacher if you get a 5 on the AP test she/he can change your grade..?? My AP calc teacher wont change grades, but the AP Euro and AP US teachers change grades 1 grade if you get a 4/5 on the test. Final transcripts arent due until mid-July and AP test results are released (over the phone) at the end of June. just be careful, dont slack off.

i havent been accepted to any schools yet but i got 2 F's for our 1st of 3 grading periods.its not a academic class. its like a work program where u get grades for work on a job. the first marking period, i didnt work enough hours becuase i had jus gotten a new job. i had 2 periods for this job, therefore i got 2 F's. but ive ben getting A's in those classes all year. and i got 2 A's in those 2 classes the 2nd grading period.

how bad does that hurt

Hmm...when I saw the thread title, I thought you gave birth to a daughter in your senior year.

Pardon my sillyness.

^ dies laughing

edit: well not because its funny to have a daughter in your senior year, but... you know what I mean.

what happens if you get a D in AP Calc but a 770 on SAT Math and SAT II Math, as well a high math contest score? i used to be a math person until calculus killed me.. or should i say when my calculus teacher killed me
