I just got my long awaited TCNJ e-mail thinking ok finally an answer only to find out that my file will have to have a "second review" and I will find out no later than April 1st about their decision. That's great and all but how are my chances of getting in. Am I less likely... Do more people usually get rejected if they are deferred or should I be happy because I have a greater chance???
What are my chances of getting into TCNJ?? I am applying for their regular Bio Major

Well, I can't offer too much advice about TCNJ specifically, but about deferral in general I can. A deferral is not a great sign--deferrees are not accepted at 4 times the amount of RD applicants, for example--but its not an automatic rejection later either. Usually deferrees get in at around the same rate as RD applicants--not much better or worse.

As far as your chances go, your rank/GPA/extras all look really nice. Unfortunately, your math score is lower, and it puts you in the bottom 25% of TCNJ's SAT range. Obviously, it's too late now to change that. I suggest that you write them a letter that reiterates your interest in being accepted and possibly updates them with any new or improved information. For example, when I was deferred, I wrote that school a letter that stated that I was still excited about the school, explained a situation with my extras that I forgot to go into originally, and attached a corrected and more detailed extracurricular list. Not a big deal, maybe, but it keeps your interest alive. Good Luck!!

I think the comments given to your post are correct, from what I had heard about 20-30% of the defered people get in. It a purgatory of sorts for sure. This year there seems to be a much larger defered pool since colleges are being more selective on EA.

I saw the same thing with your Math score it seems low for a person with the academics you have. Did you take it a seconds time? Also did you try the ACT it's a different test and people who score low on Math usually score higher on ACT.

I am so sorry but there was a bit confusion. The e-mail I received did not exactly say deferred. IN fact all it said was that they would review my application a second time with more panel people. Soooo.. i don't know. Most people said that if they took the time to e-mail me than i have a shot. especially because the only problem is SATs but i really don't know. Any ideas with the updated NOT DEFERRED just being looked at again info...
