All Eastern Orchestra? Help with info?

My DD was told last spring that she had been nominated for All Eastern Orchestra and that in order to actually participate, she would need to play in the school orchestra this year and make All State again this year. Other information said that the formal invitation to All Eastern would come out in November, and that if All State results were not yet available, a student might be invited to All Eastern contingent on the current year's All State results.
Now it is nearly the end of November and we have heard nothing. It seems to me that just among the kids my D knows, there are too many kids nominated for All Eastern (there were three from her high school alone). Does anyone know how this works? If D was nominated, does that mean she is "in" unless she doesn't make All State? When would she hear? Does the notification come to school or home? If she doesn't make it, would someone tell her (or would she just hear nothing)?
I feel like we are completely in the dark. When she was told she was nominated in the spring it sounded like she would get to participate, but now I'm not so sure. If anyone can shed some light, I would appreciate it.
Thanks.

My daughter was nominated as well. Being nominated guarantees nothing. Hundreds if not thousands are nominated. The performers are chosen by comittee. They are also chosen by region so you won’t get 5 french horns from the same region. They split it up so that it’s “fair”. The notification will go to both your daughter’s district music office as well as a letter sent home. You will not get a “sorry” sent to your house but I do think the district is notified.

Thanks for the information. That is what I needed to know.

Perhaps someone could post here if they or their child gets “the letter” so we will know when to give up hope.

Hi motherofpearl. In my state, we were given forms during one of our All-State Orchestra rehearsals (in June) with instructions on how to apply.

A letter was sent to my band director probably a week ago because he notified me of my acceptance yesterday.

Regardless of whether or not your daughter gets in, the letter will say her status.

Ex: “Orchestra”, “Wind Ensemble”, “Alternate”, “Not accepted” etc…

Melodious, Congratulations to you! And thanks for the information. I’ll ask my daughter to check with her orchestra director tomorrow.
I hope you have a fabulous experience at All Eastern.

DS was nominated to All Eastern Band. I recall that even those nominated would not be accepted if they were not accepted to All State for the current year. He made All State for the past 2 years and a few days ago we were told he made it again this year(so 3 years in a row). No idea about All Eastern yet.
And, congrats to Melodious!!!

My D heard at school today that she is an alternate for the All Eastern Orchestra. Oh well. I assume there is not a prayer of an alternate getting to go. It was just as Melodious indicated, the school music director had a list with the status of each student who had been nominated. No one was accepted from D’s school; the other two students were rejected.
Thanks to all who helped with my anxiety the past couple of days!

You would think that she wouldn’t have a chance but the truth is if my daughter gets in she would have to switch an audition to go, if she can’t then she would have to decline. You really fill out the form to go blind (sometimes 9 months in advance), things happen, concerts and competitions come up, health problems, family stuff, etc. You never know.

All true, Sagiter, I guess the seniors could be pretty busy that time of year (my D is a junior). I wonder if the alternate has to be from the same state as the player who cannot attend, so that the alternate violin from state X only gets to go if the accepted violinist or two from state X is unable to go. And how many alternates do they list? Maybe it is like college waitlists and there are 20 alternates for each slot!
I’m not holding out much hope, but thanks for the thoughts, and I hope your daughter is accepted.
