ok, so i go to a college prepatory school (very rigorous courses and curriculum) I have an advanced regents diploma, a couple of honors classes and i have taken two college (BA) classes, my ACT is a 23 and my gpa is a 3.0 - i know my gpa is low but freshman year i was having family issues at home so i didn't do too well but all my other years increasingly get higher and higher. I applied to PSU University Park, it's my first choice. I know i don't have that much of a chance of getting in but I did research on the stastics and have seen that in the past they have admitted students with way lower GPA's and ACT scores than me- each year they usually admitt 100-300 students that don't quite meet the requirements but have a compelling story and good reccomendations. I wrote about my freshman year and my bad grades and why I have them and also I have awesome recommendations, also i made sure they knew that Penn state is first choice!! Still with this i know that 100-300 people out of 72,000 applicants isn't too much of a chance but i still have hope. Anyways a couple of my friends from school applied and they all got their admission decisions and didn't get in!! They all have awesome grades along with the rigourous courses and curriculum. My penn state account hasn't updated and I haven't gotten anything yet!! Is this bad or good?? Please I need advice!

Those are likely needed athletes or students with a desired fine arts or performing arts talent. Maybe a few have a “compelling story”, but most are probably athletes.
