I've taken a lot of subject tests, but the ones I want to submit are all math or science. Harvard asks for 3, so I'm sending them Math 2 (800), Chemistry (790), and Biology (790). I also took Chinese (I don't even know why, that was the stupidest decision of my life hahaha) and Latin, on which I got a 760 and 700 (tougher than I expected... I know I can do better with a retake, but Latin isn't offered at any sitting early enough for apps). Neither are ridiculously, horrendously awful, but they're both pretty bad (if you're unfamiliar with the Chinese SATII, a 760 is pretty terrible on that particular test).

I didn't even think this was a problem until one of my friends voiced a similar concern the other day. And I know Harvard talks about looking for "well-lopsided" students, but I'm worried that they might think that the ONLY thing I'm good at is math/science. My SAT CR grade was an 800, which might dispel that belief, but my essay grade on both the SAT and the ACT was godawful... so idk...

Do you think this is going to be an issue?

PS, I don't always type with so many parenthetical clauses, I promise! Hahaha.

Oh, if this is in the wrong thread, let me know where it belongs? I’m new here, I really didn’t know where to put this.
I thought maybe the “My Chances” forum, but I don’t really want to know my chances of getting into any particular college, I just want to know how this detail affects my chances, whatever they may be. And it seemed like every thread in the “My Chances” forum listed a bunch of stuff and then asked “What are my chances at ____?”
Yeah good story, huh? xP

Hahahaha alright, so I over-exaggerate a little… perhaps that explains my essay scores.
Thanks for the re-assurance, although I’m not sure about “just make sure your non math/sci scores aren’t that bad”… what if they’re bad in comparison to everything else? As in, not bad in comparison to the average American, but bad in comparison to my other scores?

Well, I’ve got a lot of reaches… as in every school that I want to go to is described as a “crapshoot” in terms of admissions. So I just want to make sure that absolutely nothing goes wrong with the numbers part of my application, because I’m counting on them to give me a little more leeway on my personal statements and stuff haha. Those bad essay scores hit my writing self-confidence hard xP

And that 800 CR score (and good grades in classes, which doesn’t count for much b/c grade inflation) is the only evidence that I’m not completely fail at all humanities courses; I don’t know if it’s enough…

ummmm question guys…
if i plan to major in social sciences, it would be really weird to have 3 sciences scores right???
damnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

That conversation was unrelated, right? Because I’m not planning to major in anything un-science related… quite the opposite.

But while we’re on the subject - if you want to major in social sciences, I don’t think having 3 science scores is weird, especially if you’re looking at psychology, econ, or anthropology, and those 3 sciences that you tested in are really the subjects you’re best at. But if you were thinking more along the lines of law, linguistics, poli-sci… if you’re not good enough at history or languages to take the SAT subject test, you’re probably not going to want that major. Just saying, hahaha :)

Wow, congrats!! And it’s good to find a fellow science enthusist
After looking back over my app, I think the 3 math/science tests are the least of my problems, so I’m just going to ignore it right now haha.

If your math scores are good (between 600 and 700) but your cr and writing scores are in the 500s, how badly do you think that is looked upon? Ranked 11% in class, taking honors and ap in everything but english. ECs good: all county musician and swimmer. wanting to attend a LAC. Any advice? Looking at schools like Franklin and Marshall, Dickinson, Lafayette and Union.
