are there any public school kids like me out there?

i've heard that almost all Colgate students went to prep schools or private schools for high school?

are there any public school kids like me out there?

yeh i went to a public school

Public school all the way

no way. It's half and half.

Yeah sorry, I just meant for me. I've been in Public schools my whole life.

i'm public school too

68% public, 32% private - Class of 2010, according to the Colgate website. 2009 was just about the same.

Class of 2009 was 70% public, 30% private.

That was admitted students, what's the % on campus of students who end up enrolling?

Haven't seen that stat, but suspect the ratio is pretty much the same. Another question for the admissions office!

There aren't stats for that i don't think but i would say it is about half and half. Although i would take caution, in that the majority of Public schools are amoung the best in thier state or sometimes country. Many kids went to small very good public schools.

Why would the % be much different than the 70% public/ 30% private stats of accepted students published on the college website?

I do believe that there are probably more public school kids here but i think fewer come than got in...it is just how it works out.

I was visiting yesterday and Stuyvesant kids were there. They all got T-Shirts! I'm an admitted student, and I just got a cruddy water bottle :-P

The majority of h/s of Colgates enrolled class are not from the best in the country or state. Sure, some are, but not a vast majority Colgates accepts a vast number of students from every type of h/s imaginable.

Why would you discourage some poor jr looking at, or seriously considering, Colgate b/c they might believe their chances of admission are greatly diminished ( in your opinion) b/s they didnt attend one of the best h/s in the country

And who decides what h/s is the best? Newsweek? The NW rankings are totally flawed. Newsweek doesnt include magnet schools e.g. Stvy or Bostons Latin school. I 'd love to see the criterion you used for your assertion

I was visiting yesterday and Stuyvesant kids were there. They all got T-Shirts! I'm an admitted student, and I just got a cruddy water bottle }}

The t-shirts were ugly oui? At least you got a cool water bottle :)

Well if I had gone during an April visit day for admitted students then i would have received a cool T-Shirt and other goodies. I did get an ice cream sandwich though, it was like 540 calories.
A heart attack on a proverbial bun, indeed.

Health food!
