I'd have to go with Gold/Silver (2nd generation). The timing (shows, etc), sheer amount of participation (I remember every other guy, and occasional girls playing in my elementary years and talking about them daily..), gameplay (extended Johto/Kanto, more variety, etc), baller soundtracks, etc, make them unparalleled in its memories and creations.

1st Generation (Blue, Red, Green, and the enhanced I suppose, Yellow) :
2nd Generation (Gold, Silver, and likewise, Crystal) : 1
3rd Generation (Ruby, Sapphire, and once again, Emerald) :
3rd (II) Generation (Firered, LeafGreen, technically the 3rd, but I think it's distinguishable from Ruby and Sapphire and putting them under a separate category)
4th Generation (Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, etc) :
[adding this for the lulz]All other types on other consoles, etc (Colosseum, Pinball, mystery dungeons, etc) :

the classics will always be the best in my heart. :]

1st generation cause it’s just old school like that. Ah the memories

2nd generation cause you can go back to kanto and stay in johto. It was still, in my opinion, part of the “old generation”. Oh man, I really miss the memories.

3rd generation is okay compared to the first two, but not as good. Liked the new graphics and the remake (Fire Red, Leaf Green). Ruby and Sapphire were alright, but like I said, nothing will beat the 1st two generations.

4th generation and beyond, not even going to get exposed to it. Even the cartoon lost its touch with the new generation.

I stopped the maddness after 2nd generation. i always like yellow because the pikachu followed you and it was really cute. the others were cool too

I’m not sure. I love the glitches on Red/Blue, but I like the additions in Gold/Silver, as well as the Berries in Ruby/Sapphire. They all have their strong points.

Silver version (2nd gen then). It was good because I still had all the obsession of the 1st generation except it was more exciting because of all the new stuff!

crystal, yay for feminism (:
i liked sapphire the best though because for crystal version, my game crashed five times (each time forcing me to start over) and the fifth time it got so bugged that it won’t save anymore and throwing a pokeball is like putting a bar code on the pokemon T_T this came with the “fake Pokemon Diamond” version and 48 other games, but i didn’t know it could be this buggy

Did any of the generations ever give a reward for capturing all the pokemon? i remember all i got in the yellow version was some dumb certificate it was totally anti-climatic.
