<p>If anyone has gone from a predominantly white high school and is now attending an HBCU, please put in your input! I'm applying to Howard and just wanted to know more about the transition. </p>

<p>You might mention which situation would apply to you if you want others to relate experiences that may be relevant to you:</p>
<p>You are white, going from being part of the large majority to being a part of a small minority.</p>
<p>You are black, going from being part of a small minority to being a part of a large majority.</p>
<p>You are neither white nor black, being a member of a small minority in both places, but with a different large majority.</p>
<p>There are thousands and thousands of international students who come to the state every year. You find them at every thinkable college in this country. I was one of those. I fail to see what a big deal for a white kid from a white HS at Howard. After all, you still speak the same language, probably watch the same TV shows, listen to the same musicians, eat the same food… In fact, I’d venture to say that you have whole lot more common with an HU black kid more than a black kid from South Africa has with a black American student.</p>
<p>You are so right ucbalumnus! I totally forgot to mention my situation specifically. I am actually a black student who is now attending a predominantly white high school.</p>
