<p>My kid did that transition. For background, she was the only Black student in her graduating class (2008). There may have been 12-15 total Black students in the school (~600 students).</p>
<p>Her transition was fine. There apparently are quite a few students who attend Howard who come from the “I’m a minority in my HS” experience. As with most institutions of size, there are a variety of personalities. The challenge to find like-minded people is the same whether it’s Howard or a PWI. She found her people and more. </p>
<p>Here’s the thing she found out…despite the different HS experiences , her friends tended to be from the sociology-economic level, more or less.</p>
