Anyone know anything about Alleghany Street on Mission Hill? Looks like a fairly close walk to campus - perhaps 1/2 mile? Is it safe? I've seen pictures looks like a nice street. Son is considering renting over there.

I lived right next to Alleghany for two years. Mission Hill was a bad area about 10 years ago, but even when I lived there around 2010 it was all students and generally safe-- one of those areas where you probably “shouldn’t” walk around alone late at night, but I did that plenty of times, and no one I know personally had any issues.

It can be a hassle of a walk, about 20 minutes (although Alleghany is lower on the hill, which is nice… I lived closer to the top and that was rough!). If friends live near campus it can be annoying to be trekking back and forth, but once I was a junior/senior, most of my friends lived on the hill as well, and we had a great time and all loved the area. Plus there’s a stop & shop, some good restaurants, good bars for the 21+, and a T stop nearby. It’s a really great area to live in as a student if you don’t mind the walk.

Plus there’s a park right across from Alleghany that’s a great place to hang out when it’s warm. (Now I’m just going on nostalgic tangents…)

Son is moving there for September. He’s so excited - the street is very quiet and I’ve only seen the house from the outside, but it looks very well taken care of. Most of the rest of the street that I can see from google maps looks that way too. He will be a junior next fall - he’s living off campus now but this place looks so much nicer than where he is. It is right across the street from a school.
