DS has narrowed his list down from 6 to three. One large local university and then Allegheny and Juniata. I am looking for some other opinions. We have received calls from both schools, current students and alumni, but I wanted to see if anyone on CC had any type of info to share.

I graduated from Allegheny 30 years ago. I would have happily sent any of my 3 kids there but they were interested in other places. Hubby graduated from there as well. We both feel that we were well educated. Both of us attended graduate school and both of us felt well prepared academically for that experience. We are still strongly connected emotionally to the school and attend reunions when our schedules permit.

Allegheny fosters relationships between the faculty and the students. We still maintain contact with a couple of faculty members who still teach there. The required senior project is also very valuable.

My husband had a graduate student who did her undergrad at Allegheny and after completing her PhD, took a teaching position at Juniata. She said that she found quite a few similarities between the schools and was very much looking forward to working there. I don't think you can go wrong with either school.

From looking things up to answer someone else's question about Juniata a while ago, I got the strong impression that Allegheny is more of a real LAC. Juniata does not have what I would consider to be a real English department, for example, although it is reputedly strong in science.
