So my junior year ends tomorrow, and I need to indentify more well respected but known backup universities. My allergic reaction(s) ( which lead to other health problems which seems to be improving) has been tampering with my grades since high school, and seem to have went peak my junior year ( when I started to get appointments for my allergy etc…). Now I’m in search for well respected universities but common backups.

Can you list respected universities, that may appear to be a common backup school

Out of the 3, list which you would prefer in order, and why:
University of Arizona
Arizona State University
University of Colorado- Boulder

If it helps, I plan to major in science (biology, pre-medicine). I prefer a university with a large student body, and at least medium size campus.
My overall weighted GPA is 3.75 ( not counting second semester), overall unweighted falls between 3.6-3.75 ( not counting second semester). I’m really low on ec’s, and my second semester grades are not as good as my first at all. I’m retaking the ACT June 13. Attend a public high school within a city. My classes have been honors, advance, and ap ( besides freshmen year), as they should be my senior year. I don’t know what else will be helpful to list.

All are good. But, if I had my druthers I’d attend:
Colorado
Arizona
Arizona State

I prefer the environment of Boulder and Tucson over Tempe.
But, I would go ahead and apply to all of them (if you can) and then see what costs you less after finanical aid awards.

Yeah I think it will be best if I apply to all of them, though that means I will have to put out more money in sending my ACT score out.

Thanks for replies

Any more suggestions for universities to look at ( backups but well respected), or did I just about pick out all the good ones with a large student body, and at least medium size campus?

Yeah, I’m not exactly sure what I’m allergic to yet ( and all my other health problems which seems to be improving), and what is the cause of other problems. Though I’m thinking I could be allergic to wheat, celiac, or allergic to yeast etc… not sure yet but got a rast and results should come back soon ( hopefully they are accurate). Could be something in the atmosphere.

U of Oregon would be decent, but that sort of area is ripe for allergies. Texas Tech and Texas A&M, and U of New Mexico are also worth looking at.

I currently live in Arizona, and have to say that UofA is extremely good with Science. My brother currently goes there and he absolutely loves it. He turned down some good schools to go there.

Arizona State is known for research, despite what a lot of people may think. The research opportunities there are enormous, which is why I rank it higher. My brother had a list of numerous internships there for the summer, and the options were endless, which is a HUGE plus.

I have no idea if it carries over to pre-med, but the University of New Mexico has one of the top 30 primary care medical schools in the country. It’s also cheap, easy to get into, and in an awesome location (to me). Not necessarily the place for traditional school spirit, but the community really rallies around the Lobos.

Out of the three you offered, I’d say:

CU Boulder
Arizona
Arizona State

…assuming you didn’t get into any of the Honors colleges.
