Just want to thank all of you for your postings. They have been very helpful. Over the last year or so, I have been reading and occasionally posting here.

In a couple of weeks we depart from Santiago, Chile, to do the "audition tour." D will be auditioning at a number of schools starting with JMU in Harrisonburg and Syracuse in DC and then moving to Florida to audition for FSU and U Miami. After that we go to NYC where she will be auditioning for a number of schools (NYU, Emerson, Ithaca, Otterbein and Webster), finishing at Elon. We will try to make a vacation out of it, stopping at Disney while in Florida and catching a couple of Broadway shows and visiting museums while in NYC. I just hope we can keep our sanity throughout the process (thanks also to the college reps here on CC, you make the process quite a bit less stressful by posting and answering questions here) and that D doesn't catch the flu.

Hope to see some of you at the different venues.

Wow dtwmm! What an exciting journey for you and your D. Wishing you and your D all the best in her auditions and a lot of fun together, too. Sounds like you will have a wonderful time! Enjoy it all.

I live in the DC area and my D is a freshman MT at Syracuse. Feel free to PM me if you would like to talk while you're in Washington and I will send you my cell number. My D would be happy to share her experience so far with your D. Since you are traveling so far, we would be happy to talk/meet with you while you are here.

One other note: There were at least 5 students (that I know of) selected from the DC audition group from this past January (2008) into the freshman MT class at Syracuse and who are currently attending! I hope that number repeats itself and your D is one of them! Break a leg!

WOW dtw that is a long way to come to pursue the dream. I just want to add my Break a Leg for your D. I'll be anxiously watching for your results and wishing you the best. You are visiting some exciting places and going to see so many wonderful things. It will be a vacation of a lifetime and a time together with your D that you will always cherish.

Just got back from a business trip in Copper Canyon, Mexico where I had no Internet connection. Thanks for the best wishes.

Newbie, thanks for the info regarding those accepted to Syracuse that auditioned at DC. D is happy to hear that. We are also from the DC area but have been overseas for the last five years. I will PM you to exchange numbers. Thanks for the offer.

I believe that D has finished with everything. Today got her headshots (last thing on the list). We are hoping for good weather (we are coming from the summer and it is 90 degrees down here :-)).

dtwmm-I am from South Florida and would be happy to help you in any way during that portion of your journey. If you would like to pm me and let me know when you are here perhaps I can give you some information on the area. We are also going to be at FSU in January maybe at the same time-let me know your dates...
Good luck!

Best wishes on your journey and I'll look forward to meeting you both.

A side note on illness: I often seem to come down with something after I fly. Not too long ago someone recommended that I use the Zicam nose swabs before and after the flight. I started doing this and I have spent many hours on airplanes in the last three months and have not even gotten a sniffle. The swabs feel rather gross but they seem to really make a difference. It might be worth a try in order to keep healthy!

Pohsmom, thanks for the offer. D is auditioning at FSU on the 25th.

All4FSU, thanks for the tip. My main concern is for D to catch a cold or the flu. No better place to catch something than in an airplane and we are going to be spending quite a bit of time in them... However, we just couldn't see any other way of doing this.

I fully support D but i can not help myself from thinking why didn't she choose some other major with fewer requirements and less stress :-)

Well, we made it to Washington, DC. We are on our way to Harrisonburg for tomorrow's audition at JMU and then back to DC for the audition with Syracuse. We really picked the weekend! It is a very cold 15 to 25 degrees which feel much colder since we are coming from enjoying 80 to 90 degrees. I guess it could be worse since it is not snowing :-)
We haven't had a chance to contact anybody in town yet (the Washington metropolitan area is home for us). We were very tired yesterday and today we are driving to Harrisonburg stopping at one of the outlet malls on the way to do even more damage to the old bank account.

D is fine and ready to go and looking forward to the visit to JMU. We visited last year and she fell in love with the campus and the terrific atmosphere at the school.

Good luck at JMU. My daughter is a vocal performance major there. I am getting nostalgic about last year's audition process. I enjoyed every minute of it - except the nerves of course. My daughter moved JMU to her first choice after her audition last year. I thought it was overwhelming because the music school is large there and I just saw a sea of people, but she loved the kids she met and the personal attention from the auditors. I know the MT audition is different but I think you'll still not find nicer people anywhere.

There is a performance tonight at JMU in celebration of MLK that I wish I were close enough to attend. Check it out.

Jan. 16: "The Last Year in the Life of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. as Devised by Waterwell: A Rock Operetta," 7:30 p.m., Wilson Hall Auditorium: Featuring an exuberant score of rock, blues and funk, "The King Operetta" draws on speeches, writings and interviews for its content; tickets are $12, $20 and $25; for ticket reservations, call the Masterpiece Season box office at 568-7000 or 877-201-7543 (toll free).

Onstage, I know. My other D is a junior at Syracuse. She didn't get to see the sun for two months during her first Spring semester in 2007. The last two years she has gone from 90 degrees and sun tanning at the pool or at the beach straight to winter storms, 6 ft or snow or more and max temperatures of 10 degrees or so. She loves the school though.

Cartera, we got the same vibe from JMU. The school spirit is out of sight. We will look into the MLK celebration.

We only have one more week to go and D is auditioning four more times. It has been a very good experience so far, although I don't like the waiting but it is what it is. The weather did not cooperate. It was 8 F in Harrisonburg when D auditioned there but it was a wonderful experience nonetheless. JMU were well organized and kind. D likes the school a lot.
It was cold in Florida also. We spent a day in Disney. The plan was to escape the cold up North while auditioning for U Miami and FSU but the temperature didn't help much. That day in Disney was 38 F.
The rest of the auditions have been in NYC. We have gotten to see a couple of musicals (In the Heights and Avenue Q) and gone to the Metropolitan Museum and wife and D have gone shopping.
Thanks for the tips on Zicam, I do not know if it really works or not but so far we have avoided catching a cold or the flu.
