ALO Interview this Thursday

The ALO actually figures up a numerical score from his interview and sends it along with his verbal assessment. My son's ALO sat down with us and simply said "Your son is very competitive"-meaning he had a strong application and would receive a strong recommendation from the ALO. As far as how many from your congressional district, I really don't think you need to worry too much about that. Every congressman makes up to 10 nominations and USAFA can accept as many of those as they wish. Our district sent 8 candidates to USAFA this year.

RTBdad:

On USAFA's website, they say that each congressman is limited to five cadets at the Academy:[ul][]Each member of Congress and the Vice President may have five nominated cadets at the Air Force Academy at any one time.[]They may nominate up to ten candidates for each vacancy.
[]Vacancies occur when cadets graduate or leave prior to graduation.[]The Academy also reserves a select number of spots for international applicants and applicants from U.S. territories and military-affiliated categories.[/ul]
Do you know how your congressman was able to get the additional candidates admitted?

LOA's do not count against their slots. So, every LOA they nominate is a free person in.

i'm from oklahoma. i dunno if there's alot of candidates here that go to any of the academies. so i'm not sure if it's that competative here or not. if it's not, that's a plus for me!

Grappler: The information you have is what is quoted everywhere. What Hornetguy says about LOA's not counting against their slots may be true, but I have not heard it confirmed from any official source. I am good friends with our congressman's academy staffer (who's been doing this for many, many years) and even she has not given me an explanation that I can understand. However, I do know for a fact that our congressman got 8 candidates into USAFA this year from his own nominations. I have met almost all of them at a reception the congressman gave for appointees. The important thing is to be one of those 10 nominees. If USAFA wants you, then you'll be in.

For any who are having or are about to have their ALO interviews: Bill015 is a BGO (Blue and Gold Officer -- Navy's version of the ALO) who posted on the Naval Academy forum with a few do's and don'ts for the interview. You might want to check it out.
