Don't stress too much if you don't have time for a lot of community service or can't find enough, although it's looked highly upon, it's not by any means the deciding factor. I really didn't have that much, just Civil Air Patrol, which I'm not sure really even counts, but it was fun and got me excited for USAFA. Also your ACT scores look great, although I would still take the SAT. I did WAY better on it (29 Composite ACT vs. 2210 combined SAT)

So what does a youth commisioner/student liason do? Sounds interesting, and I might try it.

It is not uncommon for students to do better on either the SAT or ACT. DS got a 33 comp, which = 1480, and got a 1390 on SAT, they takke whichever is highest, but they do not take 1 part of 1 and 1 part of another, i.e. SAT V and ACT M. They only take your best scores. Ds also only took the ACT 1x, but the SAT 2x.

I would also try for habitat for humanity as an EC.

EC's are very important since the AFA wants to be sure that you can handle pressure...having EC's and being in the top of your class regardless of the size proves that you can juggle alot of things.

Your best bet right now is to contact your ALO, their experience is invaluable especially if they are brutually honest....you might not want to hear I had an applicant LY that had everything, but didn't get in, yet you can then follow up with why do you think that happened? They might say that he had 10 applicants for his area alone, which MAY convert into the fact that the area is highly competitive and the MOC's only give 1 nom for every applicant (NY comes to mind, Sen. state if you got a nom from someone else don't ask from me) I will say that our ALO was phenomenal and an asset to our DS, they created a close relationship and our DS had no problem calling him and saying "hey, I just got this nom".

Your Extracurricular Composite (Sports, work experience, leadership positions in scouting or school clubs, public/community service) only makes up 20% of you total Selection Composite.

Your Academic Composite (SAT/ACT, class rank, GPA, and transcript evaluation) makes up the most heavily weighted aspect (60%).

The Admissions Panel Composite (CFA, writing test, ALO interview, admissions review) makes up the other 20%.

Thanks Luigi, I couldn't remember the Ec % and was too lazy to look it up.

With thanks to Luigi, I hope you realize that there is more to the application than just the black and white issues and that your ALO has an effect...our ALO told us that he gave DS the MAX pts for his input...so your ALO will be an integral part in the process :)
