Alpha Chi Omega - Opinions?

i'm a little bit hesitant to join a sorority at all but i was looking through alpha chi's website and it seems to be the only one i've seen at USC that has some diversity. i'm not your typical person who would be attracted to a sorority - and i don't want one that is ALL about parties, drama, and competing over looks. is anyone familiar with this sorority who can give me the honest truth about it?

hey there,

ACHIO has extremely low numbers. There were rumors that their nationals were going to shut them down because of how low they are. The absolute truth to that, I do not know.

They are a diverse house, Id say. According to your description of what you want, achio might be for you

staring,
Choosing a sisterhood is by mutual selection. Viewing a website does not give you the whole picture.

Have a frank discussion with your parents/guardians to determine if membership in a NPC sorority is a financial option. Decide if lifetime membership fits with your academic goals, personality and time management skills.

Meet some sorority women at the Explore weekends. They are there to answer questions.

Each chapter is part of a national organization that supports a philanthropy. Note what each group does to support their charity.

Ask adult friends in your church/synagogue, family friends, coaches, etc. if they enjoyed their experience as a member in college. Would they make the same choice again?

Decide if this is the right choice for YOU. Visit each chapter and see if it is a good “fit” during recruitment in late August.

Since I am in Panhellenic we do not discuss individual chapters. The sororities are strong at SC and have been part of Panhellenic for about 90 years. There is not one with 150 members and one with 12. Two years ago all chapters took full quota. You will find all groups have social events, sisterhood events and many philanthropic projects. All have gorgeous chapter houses and a live in housemother. Each chapter is part of a national organization. You can access each national website on the net to read about founders, accomplishments, traditions and symbols.

28th university,
That is only a rumor. There has been no notification of that in any NPC publication.

Whatever qualities AXO might have, low membership is not one of them.

The best way to find out if a sorority is right for you at usc (I am a member of one of the 10 great houses here) is to go through rush yourself. Go in with an open mind (I know it’s simple advice but too often it’s ignored and it really is the best advice). The house that’s perfect for your roommate may be a terrible fit for you etc so choose for yourself. You should join a sorority because you yourself like the girls and what they stand for.

Also, I would advise going through rush in it’s entirety. It is easy to get discouraged during the process if you don’t think it’s going your way, but keep with it! The system can seem brutal but in the end, everyone ends up where they should be and will be most happy! A house should be a natural fit. Yes, you want to make good impressions since you can only meet the girls for so little time, but you shouldn’t be trying to “make it” into a house- it really is a mutual selection process and you’ll know when you click with the girls :)

Good luck with everything and go greek :)

@28thuniversity,

What do you mean by low numbers?

do girls end up with no houses? Do most girls who go through end up with a house. Also, do normal girls pledge, meaning girls who are not movie stars daughters?

Obviously LOTS of girls pledge and are happy with their (mutual) selection. I would suggest that you google USC Panhellenic and look at all the information provided. You can also go to GreekChat.com to read more about recruitment (in general) and USC specifically.

At USC, there is not only Panhellenic sororities, but other organizations as well. There are historically black, Latina, multicultural, and Asian sororities who are similar to NPC sororities. There are also professional Greek organizations catered to academic fields, including business, engineering, pre-law, pre-med, etc. It really depends on how you mesh with the people in the organization to see if it’s a good fit.

Based on what you said you were looking for, AXO could be good for you. Definitely check it out during rush in the fall. They have a lot of really nice girls in their house.

yeah they do have low numbers.

They havent made rush quota since Ive been here
