Already blown it, or still have a chance

Hey guys, I realize it's early but I'm not sure if I still have a chance at Harvard and I'm wanting some opinions.

Freshmen GPA: 3.5uw school didn't weight, no honors courses offered so all I had was Geometry H anyway.

Sophomore GPA: 3.85uw 4.44w. Taking/took PreAP Chemistry, PAP Geography, PAP English 2, PAP Algebra 2, AP Psychology.

Junior registered courses: AP Chemistry, AP US History, AP English 3, PreAP Physics, PreAP Spanish 3, PreAP Precal (Possibly AP Calc AB/BC if I can take PreCal in the summer at a college, AB and BC are one semester each.)

Senior courses expected: AP Biology, AP Physics, AP European History, AP English 4, AP Spanish 4, AP Spanish 5, AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, AP Economics.

ECs: Habitat for Humanity, running for office next year. Piano and guitar performing.

Community service: 40 hours so far at Christian Community Action and Beach cleanups with the surf club when I lived in California. I'm going to end up with like 400+ hours though.

So what do you guys think, have I blown it for Harvard, am I doing good, what can I improve on.

What are your ECs? (Remember, you're only a sophomore! you have time.) :)

ok... get that stick outta your ass, breathe and then maybe you have a chance. you will never know until you apply and get a response--derf. i'm sorry but it's WAY to early to be THAT worried. if you decide to apply EA you're allowed to freak out during the 30 days prior to the decision.

I think we are misunderstanding the emotional level of this thread. I'm not "freaking out", I'm questioning. Pondering the subject.

Sunglasses, do you mean my ECs suck or you don't know what they are? I know I need more.

Oh, sorry--I totally spaced out and thought you hadn't listed any. Don't get too caught up in packing in ECs--that's just resume-padding. Do a few things that you really love and are really good at doing.

Sunglasses: Don't get too caught up in packing in ECs--that's just resume-padding.

I want to scream that sentence over and over and over to some people at my school. OMG. Sometimes they even lie about it on their apps. sigh

Texas, all I would suggest is getting at least one academic type of EC in as well, to go with that non-academic EC. It's good to have both types, or so I've heard. Also, before thinking of doing the math over the summer, talk with your teacher about it, because for some reason, some former math-geniuses do good after pre-calc summer, but some don't.

Okay, thanks for the advice. By the way, where is Boring, Colorado?

In California I was going to do Academic League but I moved, and I didn't latch onto any academic EC's. Now that I know what's available I'll do NHS and EHS the next two years I'm sure.

Anyone else?

LOL! I meant Colorado is BOooOOoOring. And it is. Get me outta here. -.-

I'm getting like one post a day here.

I smell a dying thread, come on dudes?

Last try, hello!!!!!!!

you're still a sophomore; so my advice is for you to make the best of the time you have until your junior year by preparing for the new sat. also, try and include more ec's, focus on something you like. if you don't really like any ec thing, then you can always do some random community service. trust me, 100< community service hours looks VERY impressive.

Really because I could do over 100 easily. I love volunteer work.

To Texasmathwhiz- you need something spectacular to pull you through the sea of 22,000 (maybe even more when you apply) applicants. Out of what you're doing now, I would say really push the volunteer work if you truly love it. If you got involved with Habitat on the level of a couple thousand hours worth, that'd be amazing. What else are you interested in? Try picking up some other EC's to supplement what you're doing now, and excel in them. Just do your best, and you'll have no regrets, no matter what happens to you in two years and a month.

I'm gonna try really hard to do a lot of community service, I'm trying to make time to go do some tomorrow, but I'm not sure I can.

I plan to avidly participate in MHS and I'm gonna try to run for Treasurer of Habitat for Humanity. Thing is, I'm new at my school this year so not everyone knows me so I'll be at a disadvantage. The current president says she'll vote for me though.

Any other opinions? By the way I just joined Math Honor Society so keep that in mind.

Get off this community service obsession! Community service is great, but you shouldn't do it if you're only doing it to get into college. Lots of people with tons of hours get rejected from H...and lots of people who get in have done almost none.

Find your passion (hopefully something somewhat unusual) and then cultivate it.

If anyone tells me to find my passion again I'm going to flip out.

Don't you imagine 11 years of playing piano equates to passion!

I like community service and will do it whether or not I get into Harvard.

yea texas hear de scene you in alredy doh study it too much dog
