so wut r my chances..honestly...btw im asian.....which prob killed my chances right there

i love how ppl view threads but dont say anything lmao

This is my first time chancing so I may be off by a long shot, but here is what I think:

SAT I - If you're looking into engineering, I think your math score will outweigh the lower range critical reading and writing scores. I'm not sure how Carnegie feels about a well-rounded person though.

SAT II - Since you took Math I, I think 690 is a little bit low. Do you have time to retake it?

GPA - Hmm... I'm not very familiar with the system. Theoretically, what is the highest possible number you could attain? I think CMU is big on academic record.

Rank - I don't know how competitive your schools is, but I would say 39/181 is average since the class size is quite small.

Your ECs look great though (I'm amazed actually). I think your dedication to some of those club activities will definitely put you in a positive light.

Finally, if your essays + recommendations are truly excellent, I think you would have a shot at it (even though it may be a reach school). You should keep in mind, also, that this year is generally competitive (and CMU's engineering school is highly selective). They're very keen about choosing those who excel in math and science.

I wish you the best of luck ;]

Oh wait, sorry. I was under the impression that you were going for engineering. Are you looking at business?

not business...just school of comp sci and CIT...i rather go to CIT since comp sci is way to competitive...but i put SCS as my 1st choice anyway

anyone else....bump

come onnnnnnnnn...ppl view stuff but dont even dare to comment

Way better scores than mine. Rank is low. ECs are good. SCS is hard to get into.

60-70% for at least one of the programs im thinking.

which program...i applied to CIT(undecided) also

my stats r similar to urs...lmao actually alot similar

Don't worry too much about stats.

If your essays are good, you'll make it.

@vaibhav2614: u seem so confident...my stats r not good for CMU especially for an asian, but i THINK my essays r "good"........define "good" lol

bumppppppp

guys...i can bump all dayyyyyy, its a matter of patience

You know what I find really interesting? People who apply to top universities(such as CMU), are generally pretty qualified students, which usually insinuates a certain level of intelligence. But for some reason, they can't seem to determine to figure out their own probability of being accepted into specific universities.

You're a smart kid, you know yourself better than anyone on the internet, what do YOU think your chances are? There are plenty of websites that have statistical data on accepted and rejected students. Use them. Figure it out, only you can.

Anyways, so what if you can somehow mathematically figure out your exact chance of being accepted, or a general consensus of anonymous online opinions agrees that you will be accepted. None of it means anything. I suggest you find something to do for the next few months to keep yourself busy until you ultimately receive your decision letter, because that is the only opinion that matters, the opinion of the admissions council.

hey dude, r gonna chance me or no? i rlly dont feel like debatin my reasons of why im doin this becuz i know YOU'RE a smart kid as well. u can figure it out. btw...u chanced urself as well...hypocrite

I will tell u this though. I am a worried student. I want to go to CMU. I want to know wut other ppl think. It gives me an impression of wut to expect in April. And honestly, i rlly dont know wut my chances r. Otherwise, i wouldnt be postin anythin on the internet.

Back to my original statement...i would like an honest "chance me" for CMU. Thank You..

your ECs are phenomenal
but everything else looks less than stellar

i think your essays and letters of recommendation would have to be amazing to get in

i don't think your odds are good.

but then again, what do i know?

thank you for ur honest opinion

bumpp

Bump away. I think you should have taken the Math2 SAT2 and that your verbal scores are low enough to hurt you. Look at the admissions statistics. You are on the low end for both schools. For SCS, I see nothing that indicates experience or interest in computer science.

wut bout CIT? i no my chances of SCS r very low but wut bout CIT?
