alright... i guess it comes down to this. "chances" (plus questions)

Before i go on, I do not want any "elitist" or rude comments. Or saying community college is my only choice.. because I have already been accepted into college.

My first choice is the University of Kentucky. I plan to major in equine business, because there are no colleges that offer this course around me.

I got to an all-girls private school, and it's one of the top 50 in the nation. (So i do go to a challenging private school... never have been in a public school). Regular classes ARE basically honors classes.. while "honors" is more work like AP, and then AP is just... brutal.

My scores and gpa make my chances look bleak. I have a 2.43 GPA (used to be 2.31) and honestly, I believe that I am a late bloomer.

Secondly, my SAT score is a 1420 composite, yes, it's under average, however, it used to be a 1170. So honestly i'm very happy with that score. Math: 480, CR: 470, W: 740. 950 M + CR

My ACT score is a 19 -____- however, there are many reasons why I got this pathetic score. I was a standby, didn't study, didn't know the test format, AND I didn't know it was okay to guess.

I got a decision from UK in January, after I returned to the US from a school trip. It said a decision wasn't made on my application. I contacted my admissions officer, and we talked over the phone. My admissions officer told me that the best thing for me to do was to take the SAT/ACT again and score higher. She also told me (since she has no clue what the panel will say and can only guess the decision) that it was likely that I wouldn't be accepted (if i didn't retest and get a higher score).

After that, the Jan. SAT was that weekend, I wasn't prepared for it so I skipped it, and signed up and recently took the February ACT. I am worried about my score, since I heard that if scores raise on the ACT, they will raise a max of 2-4 pts. I studied for the ACT, just as long as I studied for the SAT the second time i took it (actually, I studied a lot more than I did for the SAT!) I am so worried.

Before my ACT test, I emailed my admissions officer (we have been emailing back and forth) saying how Kentucky is my number one school, and I am 100% sure that if I am accepted, I will enroll there.

So, sorry for the long post! But here are my questions:
1.) Say if my ACT scores do raise 2 pts. (21) Do you think I can get in?
2.) Say if my ACT scores do raise 4 pts. (23) Do you think I can get in?
3.) By letting my admissions officer know that if I am accepted I will be attending UK, will that increase my chances? (I am REALLY REALLY REALLY interested in the University of Kentucky, I have been since I was in 8th grade (when I started looking at colleges). I love it there, it's one of the few teams I root for, the only team I watch on TV, i'm the only person in my state that bleeds blue, and no, not Duke Blue).

those are all i can think of for right now! I'm sorry this is a long post.
And please again no rude comments.. I'm already accepted into Georgetown College, so please do not even think of saying community college is my only option... cause it's not!

--------->

just saw two mistakes, sorry about that!

SAT Writing= 470, not 740

*got to= go to

BUMP

Another question that I do have:

Should I send in a personal statement/essay, even though the admissions haven’t said anything about it?

Sorry for bumping this up all the time. Please forgive me:)

BUMP! Sorry this is such an essay :p

I don’t think UK uses the SAT for admissions. But in a 19 ACT will be a killer if you are trying to get in, especially if you are not a minority.

If I were you I would work my ass off and get at least a 23 on the ACT and then try to get in as a late decision. Being out of state will help your cause but right now your numbers are not good

Yes, they do use it. Because they wanted me to take the SAT again so that they could make a decision on my application, but I just got back from a trip, and the SAT was three days later, so I decided to take the ACT again.

I totally forgot about this post, but I am thankful that some one who goes to UK (i’m assuming? :)) answered this.
And just to share my excitement, I did get a 23  Superscored, it is a 24/25… apparently on my VIP thing on UK’s website, which transfers all my information over (GPA, SAT, ACT) it says a 25. Another question: should I trust this as my ACT score? I honestly thought it was a 24 (my SAT on the VIP is a 1460, so higher than my original SAT).

Thank you for answering, do you think I have a chance of getting in now? Since my ACT score is within the range and apparently is the average (when it is a 25, I am 1 pt. below the avg. when it is a 24).

svoss, as a UK grad and active alumnus, I would make sure that you are accepted into not only the University, but the equine program. I understand it is highly competitive. You might also look at Midway College in Versailles. It too has an equine program.

I would talk to the admissions office in the College of Agriculture at UK to make sure your stats are in line with their requirements for your major.

I’ve already asked and they said every student that is accepted there is automatically admitted into the college of ag.

I am from Louisville, so criteria for my admissions is different. In state, you’d be fine. Now that your ACT is higher, im guessing you’re in.

As long as you raised your ACT you have a good chance, but no, sadly, I don’t think calling an admissions counselor and telling them it’s your #1 school would help. They offer admission to the top cut of students from all applicants, not based on whether they will accept or not
