Alternate Campus?

When I apply to Penn State University Park should I list a satellite campus as an alternative?
I have heard that if you list an alternate they will fill up their satellite campuses first and not accept you into the main campus. Is this true?

They base their decision on your stats. I don’t think they have enough time to fool around with trying to fill up the branches first.

They tell Centre Co students to not fill that in, because UP is their satellite. If you enter a satellite campus, and your stats are borderline, you are likely to end up at the branch in 2+2. If you only enter UP, and your stats are borderline, you are likely to get rejected, period. If your stats are good or great, it’s most likely you will get whatever you put as your first choice.

I dont’ think they assign you to a branch just because you list one. I think the point of selecting a branch campus is if you don’t qualify for main campus you can select a branch campus of your choice. For instance, if you wanted to live away from home you might pick Altoona or Erie, which are the biggest branches. If you wanted to stay near home and commute, you might pick the branch closest to your home.
