Alternate versions and Score Choice

Some of the schools where DS plans to apply accept Score Choice, and some don't. We had thought that he could submit the initial Common App to a school that DOES allow Score Choice, showing only a single set of scores, and then create an alternate version where the additional test scores would be added.

However, the school with the earliest deadline will need to see multiple sets of test scores. Does anyone know whether the Common App will let you REMOVE entire sets of scores from an alternate version?

Right now his application shows an "Add Test" button for each type of score. He has not added any, for fear he might not be able to remove them once they have been added.

On other portions of the application, where he has added lines for current-year courses, honors, etc., we don't see an obvious way to delete them -- there's no "remove" button. We're guessing it might be the same for the test scores. Even if he blanked out the actual scores, it might be obvious that an additional test score had been there at one point and then had been erased.

To take advantage of Score Choice, must he file his first application with just one set of scores, and then create alternate versions and add scores from there? Or is it possible to remove the additional test scores after the first app has been submitted?

If anyone have any experience or insight on this issue, please share.

Thanks!

The way alternate version works is to start with one already submitted application. After that, go ahead and make alternate versions (up to 10). Consider an alternate version the same as an unsubmitted version: you can change it. There is only one way it is unchangeable: if it has been submitted.

Thanks - I understand that he can create an alternate version and change it as long as it has not been submitted.

My question is whether sets of test scores can be REMOVED from the alternate version, leaving no trace that they have ever been there.

He does not simply want to CHANGE the test scores - he wants to delete some of them entirely. I have not seen anyone say whether this can be done.

We submitted this question to Common App support. Here’s the response, for anyone else who may have the same question:

“In alternate versions it is possible to remove test scores from previous versions so that there is no trace that they were there beforehand. They can be deleted and not just changed.”
