Alternative Fall or Spring Break??

I thought I'd get more responses if I posted this here. Anyway, parents, did any of your children ever participate in something call Alternative Fall or Spring Break? For those who don't know, it's a thing where you go and do service work over your fall and/or spring break in college. I'm just wondering because I'm thinking about doing that this fall. Any thoughts/experiences on it appreciated.

My S did a Habitat for Humanity Trip to South Carolina last spring. He raved about the experience. This was a highly emotional experience as the students bond together through the work they do together building homes as well as the long, philosophical, personal sharing conversations lasting well into the night. No parties, no drugs/alcohol but lots of interaction with each other and the people in the local community where they are working. He plans to do a service trip like this every spring semester with at least one of them in Latin America.

Thanks for the response. I might apply for the fall break, but the spring break is expensive. It was about $700 last time for domestic; not sure about international. :/
