Alternative Spring Break?

<p>I'm thinking of joining an Alternative spring break sometime during July to a trip in New Orleans. Alternative Spring Break is basically joining a group that will volunteer and help others for a week.</p>

<p>I'm wondering: how good will it look for med school(the group leader will give me a written confirmation or write-up after the trip)? I'm not doing this purely for the resume but because I am interested. I just want to know how significantly it would affect my resume. Either way, I'm dishing out my extra money to go and it would be nice to know that I am helping both those in need and myself.</p>

<p>these “alternative spring break” trips are the epitome of trying too hard to pad your resume because they cost so much money and you are going so far out of your way to do some sort of cliche volunteering activity. your “i am interested” rings very very hollow even in this post so i doubt it’d pass the sniff test with adcoms. but who knows, it might.</p>
