Alternative to M&T?

Hi, this is my first post here, so please excuse any mistakes, unorthodoxies, or general lack of tact. Thank you all kindly.

Anyways, I want to study some form of engineering, perhaps materials, in college, but I also want to eventually progress into a management role. For that reason, UPenn's M&T program interests me. However, I also realize that the program only accepts 50 people a year, so I'm considering other paths as well.

Compared to the M&T program, what are the advantages and disadvantages of becoming an engineering major, working several years, and then applying for a Wharton MBA? How difficult would it be to apply to Wharton after receiving an engineering degree?

Thanks again.

MBA loves physics majors, chem majors, engineers, and mathematicians. You’re more than fine going that route.
