Alternatives to Computer Science...

As a freshmen finishing my first semester, i found out Computer Science is not what i want to do. Basically i grew up with computers in general, building them and gaming etc. So of course, a computer related major would be perfect, right? Not so much. I'm going to be failing the course and i'm not sure what to do. I'm doing fine in my other freshman classes. I'm mainly wanting to know a few things...

I'm not a very great student in terms of high GPA, or high math course. So persuing in a engineering degree does not seem likely to me. I'm going to see my adviser very soon and i want to know some alternatives to switch my major. Maybe it doesn't have to be computer or engineering related, but i really don' know what to choose. Business? uggh.

Computer Information Systems or some sort of Computer technology degree? Heck, maybe even Management Information Systems. Still around computers and technology but less math.

You should major in what you want to study, anything from agriculture to zoology. There will be a way to apply computer technology in any area, again, from art to … er… zoology (only subject I know that starts w/z). Anyhow, after you eliminate cs, math, engineering, business, others, what do you think you will like? Go for that. And use computers as a powerful tool in that area. Good luck.

That’s the thing though, the day i signed up for classes last summer, they made us choose our major so quickly. So i don’t really have a understanding for all the majors and what i would like. That’s why i chose CS, because i thought i would like it.

Study something that has jobs available so you can get a job.
If you study something just because it “interests you”, you might have a hard time finding a job if the market is terrible for that field. You can do what “interests you” in your spare time.

If you go to a state school then your school might offer a degree in Computer information systems/management information systems. I’m all but officially changing my major from Computer Science to Computer Information Systems.

I don’t have a strong understanding of what the entire subject covers, but I can link you to my university’s course catalog page that covers that major

What they don’t tell you about Computer Science is that it’s basically the science of computation - programming is a big part of the application of CS but there’s a huge theoretical portion of the upper division CS programs and I didn’t want to do that either.

@wildfire12, what do you want to do? If you want to write software, it is not necessary to get a CS degree (but it is necessary that you understand enough of the principles of computation to do what you’re asked to do).

You should also check with your professor to see if there is any tutoring, group study, etc. available.
