Alumni giving rate as a measure of student satisfaction?

I see that Vanderbilt's alumni giving rate is 28%, not abysmal, but lower than many of the other top institutions out there like the Ivy's, Stanford, etc. (OTOH, Emory is way low with 19%).

So, students & alumni-- what do you make of this? I had always thought that Vandy has lots of school spirit, but I would expect a higher giving rate to reflect such a rah-rah attitude. Were you happy with your Vandy experience? (& will that translate to you forking over some contributions in the future?)

Emory underreported its actual alumni giving rate, which is 34%.

I'd like to see it higher, but remember Vanderbilt acquired Peabody alums and some of those old timers are still not happy with the "new" affiliation. Also, young alumni participation could be much higher.

What surprises me more is that the giving rate of those who attended on scholarship is surprisingly low. This oddity is common across many institutions.

All things considered, I don't give too much weight to this stat as a measure of student satisfaction, but 50% would be nice.
