Has anyone received an interview with an alum yet?
I applied to Columbia College.

Son received call for an interview.

I haven’t gotten any notification. Were we supposed to request one or something?

Nope, don’t bother requesting. It’s up to the members of the ARC (alumni) and this year some juniors and seniors to arbitrarily select names of people they’re interested in interviewing from their hometowns. If there are few alumni in your area and few people doing Skype interviews, you’re less likely to get one than someone who lives in a big metro area. It probably will have little to no effect on your application chances whether you get one or not.

I applied ED last year and I did not get an email about one until late November, and I didn’t actually go for the interview until the weekend before the decision came out, so you may not get an email or a call until later in the admission cycle.

mmmgirl: I have definitely heard that being offered an interview is NOT an indication of your chances of admission to Columbia! So don’t fret if you haven’t been contacted- just think you can relax and not have to iron clothing, be nervous and prep!!

neiro6: congrats on your acceptance!

Hi… I’m a parent of an international student who has applied RD at CC. Some of my child’s friends who have applied for SEAS have gotten interviews with alums and some haven’t. No one who has applied to the college has received an interview. Is the process random, or are the kids being interviewed screened before being offered an interview?

i haven’t gotten an interview from columbia or yale. sigh…

I have scheduled an interview for Yale but I haven’t been contacted by anyone for Columbia’s interview. We can’t even see the status of our applications until Jan 21, if I’m not wrong. Hope everything goes smooth.
Btw, does anyone know if sending SAT subject test scores around mid-February is a problem or not? Will it be too late?

^ I think it’ll be fine. yale accept jan. sat ii scores.

I was contacted for an interview for Columbia on January 9. For my interview I had to travel quite a long ways to the city yesterday, since I live out in the country of Tennessee. My interview lasted at least an hour and half, so I am hoping that this is an excellent sign. Good luck to everyone!

I live in the Western PA area, and I received a call for an interview on Jan 22.
You are NOT able to request an interview.
Application status can be viewed beginning Feb 13, I believe.

Have yet to be contacted, but I’m really holding out hope that there’s an alum in these neck of the woods.

I have two sons who have applied to Columbia RD-- one to Columbia College and the other to the Fu School of Engineering. My husband is an alumnus and we haven’t heard anything yet. We are located in Northern California. Maybe it will just take awhile!

International here. Haven’t heard a thing from Columbia even though I have friends who’ve had their interviews… I wonder if Columbia prescreens for int’ls like Harvard…?

I am an indian citizen and I had my interview with a columbian alumunus a few weeks ago… He told me a bit about the procedure and said that he had receied 5-6 applicants to interview but chose only 2 people, me and another applicant in delhi because he found our applications interesting… I dont know how true it is and mayebr its only applicable for international citizens since an ivy league alumunus in area is a pretty rare thing. But i believe, like many others that interviews dont necessarily mean a bug leap towards admission. Although a good interview may not guarantee admission a bad one will definitely hurt uou. So dont fret guys and cheers

@optimisticer - u mean your interviewer had all your application details. That’s strange, cos at uchicago and upenn the interviewers are only given names and contact details. The few who have been interviewed by columbia from my sons school had varied stats… So we were led to believe the process is random. Maybe not…

Same for Brown. I gave my interview EC list, but other than that, he only knew my name and contact information.

S was just offered an interview on a group interview day in a nearby city. Does anyone think it’s a bad sign if you’re offered a group interview day versus a one-on-one alumni interview? Also - he can’t attend due to a schedule conflict. Will that hurt his chances?

momcares: there’s no difference btn group vs. 1-on-1 interviews. It’s just the logisitics of that particular interviewing group. My HYP group does 1-on-1s but I am advocating to our coordinator to go to group – just so we can cover the few extra applicants.

Are interviews all done for Columbia? is it too late to be contacted?
