So I just got an email responding to my alumni interview request from Johns Hopkins.. the guy said "the JHU admissions board has asked me to interview you and provide and evaluation on your qualifications for admittance".. I thought the interviews were supposed to be informative and not evaluative? what does this mean?

Based on the experience I had with my interview, it’s not evaluative, I’m not sure what your interviewer is talking about. At my interview I had a pretty casual conversation, he didn’t take any notes, and didn’t have a set of questions to ask me. Obviously it’s an alumni interview, so each person could conduct it a little differently, but it still shouldn’t really be ‘that’ evaluative. He did say he would recommend me and say I was a great candidate, but I think admissions takes alumni interviews with a grain of salt.

Hope this helps.

@MrDoctor so i had my interview and it went great, at the end of it he told me that hopkins asks for ratings and an evaluation/recommendation after interviews. He said that it was more evaluative than hopkins advertises, so that threw me off a little. He did say he would give me the highest possible ratings, though, so that’s good. He said they ask for ratings on things such as fit, character, knowledge of the school, etc.

Wow, wasn’t expecting to hear that, that’s pretty good information to know. I’m glad your interview went well!
