Well I'm off to Baltimore tomorrow, and my interview is Friday. Anyone who's done this before have any tips/advice?

Is yours non-evaluative? If so, I was wondering the exact same thing!

Where are you from? Just wondering.

I didn't know there was a distinction b/w interviews?!?! I guess I'm non-evaluative....

And I'm from Arkansas

i had an off-campus interview (done by an alumni, but the admissions officers were there to greet ppl and stuff). it's cool because i think they match you up with alumni with a similar major as your planned major.

anyways, come prepared with questions for your interviewer! my interviewer did a really good job telling me what i didn't know from the jhu website/brochures. she also didn't really ask me that many questions- it was much, much more informative.

she also said that she doesn't really have a say in whether or not i get in....so i guess that makes it all the more informative, instead of evaluative. anyways, yay for JHU!!

Where are you from in Ar?

Anyway, I don't know if the interviews are vital (I never did one), but I would suggest the most important thing is to not seem really shy -- just be outgoing -- and also don't be pompous, but be "charmingly self-effacing" if you can manage it.

Interviews are optional, informational, and non-evaluative. On-campus interviews are typically conducted by trained students and off-campus interviews are done by trained alumni. The interviews are for you to learn more about Hopkins and to provide context to your application, they are not to be used in the decision making process.

Check-out this great <pdf> that discusses the Hopkins interview:

Good luck.

well, if you're gonna be in the hopkins area, you should come to garland hall and uhm, talk to some people :)

Well just got back from Baltimore about an hour ago. I have to say that despite the bad weather while I was there the surrounding area of Johns Hopkins is absolutely gorgeous. I really liked my student interviewer, and the financial aid guy I talked to was also very friendly and quite funny.

I got lucky that my admission representative did my tour, so I got to introduce myself to her and all that good stuff. It was kind of funny to see all the kids aspiring to go to Johns Hopkins; way too many future doctors from what I could tell.

By the way do any of you current JHU students know a girl named Layla, she's a tiny indian girl who's doing BME? She was in my AP Biology class last year and got accepted to Hopkins so should be there now.... If she just happens to be sitting next to you in one of your classes you should tell her Alex from Rosser's class hopes to see her next year...
