Hi! I got an email just a couple of days ago from an alumni saying that due to the amount of time it took to contact me, we need to have our interview over phone or skype within the next week or so. I replied with three time slots (2-3 hours each) when I would be available and said I could do either phone or FaceTime, but that phone would be preferable. However, the first time slot I sent was this afternoon, and I haven’t heard anything back about when I’m going to be called and by what means. Is this normal? Should I just be prepared for the full duration of each of those time slots for either phone call or FaceTime? I’m just a little wary about having to sit around for three hours at a time waiting for a phone call that might not come that day. Advice/insight?
When you were contacted for an interview, you should indicate when you are NOT available and ask the interviewer to pick a time convenient to him/her. You want to impress the interviewer so you definitely prefer in-person/Skype. It looks like you don’t have time for Brown interview and it is not your priority. Other people are dying for an interview opportunity and they are likely to take your interview slot. I hope your file is strong enough to not need an interview. Good luck.
The process shouldn’t be like waiting for the cable company. The interviewer will normally get back to you with a specific time. My interviews take typically between 45 minutes to an hour 15. Some interviewers go longer, others shorter, and it also depends on the interviewee and how the conversation progresses. At this point, I’d send a polite follow up email to see if the interviewer has selected a time yet.
BKSquared Thank you for your advice, I will give that a try
