Alumni Interviews: Skype options becoming more numerous

Due to the numbers applications to Yale College outpacing the number of volunteer alumni interviewers, Yale has made available to some groups the option to include Skype-conducted interviews. Practically unheard of a few years ago, these will likely be more commonplace this year and following.

Again, not everyone is guaranteed an interview, Skype or face to face. If you don't get one, that's not an indication of your eventual decision. Many kids get in w/o ever being interviewed. It's largely a random assignment and with the more than doubling of applications over the last decade, more and more applicants will be missed. However, also know that this is, by far, the smallest portion of any applicant's file (as it should be).

Good luck possible Yale College Class of '19.

For those who are applying SCEA (like me), when will we begin getting calls to schedule interviews?

i got in scea without an interview. don’t worry about it.

pale: generally I’d say a few might get called before Nov. The rest mostly in Nov, if at all. Remember: many will not get an interview.

If you are offered an interview, you will start getting calls soon after the SCEA application deadline of November 1. Every student applicant is not offered an interview and it does not affect your chances of admission if you don’t since it is dependent solely upon whether there are enough alumni in your area to do the interviews.
